I loved the history that was presented with the paintings. It gave me a deeper appreciation for what the artists were depicting- from family life to outdoor life all those years ago in that part of the world. Plus, I was exposed to artists I hadn't heard of before. Really wonderful artists. But honestly, one of the most special moments for me was the Rembrandt painting which depicted a husband and wife, who was wearing a red dress. It was a tender and beautiful painting. I especially wanted to see it because I believe that this painting was the one that Van Gogh stood in front of for a very long time as noted by observers who saw him there. I stood in front of it too, though probably not for as long as he did. Anyway, it was a lovely experience.

A huge museum, with an equally huge selection of paintings ranging from van Gogh to Rembrandt! The same goes for the exhibition of ship models and porcelain! The only minor drawback: the descriptions of the paintings in the online guide were a bit sparse and lacking! The descriptions—and the number of them—could definitely be more detailed and more numerous!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Rijksmuseum isn’t the kind of place you just “quickly walk through”; it’s more of a comprehensive deep dive into Dutch history and European art. The building itself feels like a mix of a palace and a journey through time, and this is immediately confirmed inside: huge halls, perfectly curated rooms, and a layout that makes it surprisingly easy to find your way around despite the size. The absolute highlight, of course, are the masterpieces by Rembrandt van Rijn, especially the famous “Night Watch,” which stands in its own room and is even more impressive in real life than in any photo. The works by Johannes Vermeer are also exceptionally powerful—the play of light, the details, the tranquility in the scenes—it simply has a different quality when you stand right in front of it. What really stands out positively: The exhibition isn’t just “old and dusty,” but is presented in a modern way, well-lit, and logically organized. You can tell that a lot of emphasis is placed on the experience here, not just on the mere presentation of art. Even if you’re not a big art fan, you’ll find yourself lingering because the rooms keep delivering surprising highlights. One practical tip: Make sure to bring enough time; otherwise, you’ll just rush through and miss half of it. Two to four hours is the minimum if you really want to enjoy it. Could you ever leave Amsterdam without visiting the magnificent museums that define this city full of life, freedom, and culture? Our travel itinerary already included tickets to the Van Gogh Museum, but not to the Rijksmuseum—which we were able to book on our own very easily through Headout

The Rijksmuseum was great, even without a guide. The canal cruise was a bummer because I didn't know I had to go to the ticket office first to have my tickets—which I'd bought through Head-Out—scanned. Other than that, everything was fine!

People who are unable to independently navigate through the museum may bring one companion with them for free. You can pick up an entrance ticket for a companion at cash register 1.

At the Museum Square, there is a locker point where you can store your luggage safely.

Your ticket is valid only for the selected date and time slot, and cannot be rescheduled. Guests who do not show up or arrive after their scheduled time may be considered a no-show and will not be eligible for a reschedule or refund.
