- Walk a short trail to the Hermit Caves of Badovas, where monks once lived in cliffside grottoes, climbing with ropes and ladders that still hang above the cave mouths.
- Choose the lunch upgrade and enjoy comforting dishes like baked feta drizzled with honey, cinnamon-laced moussaka, and crispy spanakopita at Kastraki Village.

SoloVerified booking2 weeks ago5/5Firstly, Meteora is magical. Very breathtaking views and totally worth it. This is not a place to be missed in Greece and in Europe. The trip was well organized from the bus trip, the lunch and the guides. Great explanation about meteora and good organization skills with enough time for photos and monastery visits. Only disclaimer (not part of the package but good to mention) is that dinner is self paid and the servers were forcing people add ons like salads and juice almost implying it's free so be cautious on your way back to select only what you would like to eat.SSarah P
CoupleVerified bookingLast week5/5We went on the English speaking tour and had Vaso as our guide. She was extremely knowledgeable about the monasteries the local area and geology which was an added bonus. Inside the chapels, is the most beautiful artwork and intricate carvings I have ever seen. For me, my favourite places were St Barbara and St Stephan. Everywhere you look there is so much history and so much work that has gone into building these sanctuaries. I 100% recommend this tour. Is it a long day? Yes it is. Is it worth it? 1000% yes. Book the tour, you will not be disappointed.AAntonin L
CoupleVerified booking2 weeks ago4/5During the Busride to meteora, no anouncements where made. So we did not know if there would be toilet breaks or not, and it was hard to communicate with the personell in english. The break we then took was at a tourist trap stop with expensive but bad food. Same goes for the second break, where the toilets were i realy bad condition. Once in Meteora the tour was great and the tour guide was friendly, knowledgable and spoke several languages. Would recommend, but pack enough food for the day and some wet wipes for the toiletsTTessier F
CoupleVerified booking2 weeks ago4/5The tour of Meteora was great, but the meal was very disappointing—it took less than 20 minutes, and the food was bland; the chicken was very dry and cold, and the spinach pie tasted like it had been reheated.SSandra R
CoupleVerified booking2 days ago5/5Me and my partner had a really great time at the tour. Rula, our tour person, was really fun and explained everything to us.
What to bring
- Bring some cash for entrance donations (€3 to €5 per monastery) and any purchases, as credit card facilities may not be available.
- Opt for sturdy shoes with good grip, as paths can be uneven and include many steps.
- Carry water and light snacks, especially during warmer months (June to August).
- Don’t forget to bring your own earphones and a fully charged phone to listen to the audio guides comfortably.
What's not allowed
- While outdoor photography is generally permitted, refrain from taking photos inside churches and of monks or nuns.
- Flying drones is prohibited without special permission.
Accessibility
- Meteora is not wheelchair accessible. All monasteries involve steps or inclined paths.
- If you have mobility constraints, consider visiting monasteries like St. Stephen’s, which has a paved path and minimal stairs.
Additional information
- Your tour bus will be across from Larissa train station on Theodore Diligianni Street, in front of Everest Café. Look for the 'Visit Meteora' sign.
- Expect to visit 2 to 4 monasteries. Each has a weekly closing day (Great Meteoron on Tuesdays, Varlaam on Fridays), so the lineup may vary.
- All monasteries require a €3 to €5 offering per person, payable in cash at the gate.
- Tour guides are not allowed inside the monasteries. To continue exploring while inside, take advantage of the multilingual audio guides.
- Tours use minibuses or local shuttles to transport visitors between sites.
- Basic toilets are available at larger monasteries (Great Meteoron, Varlaam, St. Stephen) and may require a small tip.
- The Meteora monasteries follow a strict dress code. Men must wear long pants; women need long skirts and shoulder coverage. Sleeveless tops and shorts are not allowed.
