Went with my two teens & we all lost our minds when the first whale showed up like 20 mins in. The guide—Ida, I think—was super chill and answered a million questions (my son is a walking Wikipedia). The boat was comfy, even though it was WINDY up on deck (bring a hat, trust me). Crew handed out these giant blue suits that made us look like marshmallows but kept us warm. Saw three whales, one calf, and got sprayed when it exhaled right next to us. They emailed us pro pics after, which I didn’t expect. Couldn’t take proper pics with frozen hands anyway, lol. Would 100% go again. If you get seasick, maybe pre-game w/ ginger candy.

Still buzzing a day later. I did the tour solo and it was MAGIC. The guide kept sharing facts about whale tails and migration—made it feel like a mini documentary, but in real life. We saw a big humpback breach TWICE (never thought I’d be so excited over a splash). Only minus: bring gloves, my hands froze. They emailed us a link to the best pics. Such a treat.

Pretty cool overall. We saw two whales and a bunch of birds but not much else. The crew was friendly, gave us hot chocolate, and told a few whale jokes (some better than others). Boat was a bit crowded but I managed a spot by the rail. Don’t expect to be alone out there, but still fun for a chill afternoon.

Definitely worth the early wake-up. My girlfriend and I spotted three whales (well, she did first, bragging rights for her now). Crew was super organized, and the marine biologist onboard shared stories about each whale, which made it feel personal. Not cheap but felt special.

My partner and I picked the evening tour (less crowded, yay!) and lucked out with perfect weather. Saw two whales and a pod of dolphins. The sun setting over the fjord was just WILD. Staff was super friendly and took pics for us. Would recommend for couples, v romantic.

What to bring

What's not allowed

Guests must not touch, feed, or disturb whales, dolphins, seabirds, or any other wildlife encountered during the excursion.

Additional information

Marine wildlife is frequently spotted in the area, though sightings depend on natural conditions and cannot be guaranteed.

If whales or dolphins are not seen during your trip, you will receive a complimentary Classic Tour ticket valid for two years in both Reykjavik and Akureyri.
