Explore the Slice of Paradise that is Sete Cidades

Prepare yourself for an out-of-this-world experience at Sete Cidades. Go hiking in the enormous volcanic crater, that measures 3 miles across, situated in the western part of São Miguel Island. Follow your guide’s lead as they help you navigate this verdant landscape encompassing stunning lagoons, numerous lakes, and rare species of endemic flora. You can get started by scaling one of its most prominent mountains, Pico das Éguas. When you reach the top of the mountain, glance over the mind-blowing scenery from the height of 873 meters, which is also the highest point in the entire region! You will also discover the gorgeous crater lake known as Lagoa das Sete Cidades nestled in this sublime landscape. It is separated into two smaller lakes by a narrow strait, but it gives the appearance of two distinct lakes as one is colored green and the other has a clear blue color. You cannot help but feel drawn to its impeccable beauty especially, after hearing the local legend that traces its formation to the tears shed by a princess and her shepherd paramour over their forbidden love. The seven-arched bridge over the strait also has a connection to the mythical city of Atlantis, which you can hear about in great detail from your guide as you make your way through it.
