What to bring

• Large bags at SEP: At the SEP, bags over 40 x 35 x 40 cm must be left in the cloakroom.
• Photography gear at SEP: At the SEP, flash and tripods are not allowed anywhere.
• Flash in museums: In Bellas Artes, MUNAL, and Museo Mural, flash photography is not allowed.

• Tour format: This is a 2.8 km self-guided audio walk with 11 stops over about 105 minutes.
• Best start time: For museum entry, start Wednesday to Sunday around 10 am at the market.
• Museum opening days: All museums on the route open Wednesday to Sunday.
• Monday closures: On Mondays, only the SEP courtyards, the market, and the Palacio Postal hall are open.
• Tuesday closures: On Tuesdays, the SEP and the Museo de las Constituciones are closed.
• Sunday free entry: On Sundays, San Ildefonso, Bellas Artes, and Museo Mural are free for all visitors.
• MUNAL Sunday rule: On Sundays, MUNAL is free only for Mexican citizens and residents.
• SEP hours: The SEP courtyards are free Wednesday to Monday from 10:00 to 18:00, and are closed on Tuesday and national holidays.
• San Ildefonso hours: San Ildefonso opens Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 18:00, with the last ticket at 17:30.
• San Ildefonso tours: Guided visits usually run at 11:30, 13:30, and 16:00, but timings may change.
• Photo permits: Bellas Artes and Museo Mural require paid photo permits, while MUNAL allows free phone photos.
• Reaching stop 1 by metro: Take Metro Line 2 to Zócalo/Tenochtitlan or Allende, then walk about 650 m via República de Argentina and República de Venezuela.
• Reaching stop 1 by Metrobús: You can also arrive via Metrobús at the República de Argentina stop, which is nearby.
• Ending transport: From the last stop, Metro Hidalgo and Metro Juárez stations are both within easy walking distance.
• Time inside sites: If you enter every building, expect to spend a full day, as the SEP alone can take an hour.
• Interior planning: Plan to go inside only two or three key interiors and enjoy the others from the street.
• Market murals tip: In Abelardo L. Rodríguez market, ask stallholders to help you find murals hidden behind stalls.
• Palacio Postal visit: Visit Palacio Postal on a weekday daytime, as official opening hours can be inconsistent.
• Postcard tip: You can mail a postcard directly from the historic hall of Palacio Postal.
• Market area safety: Around Abelardo L. Rodríguez market, walk in daylight and keep your phone and wallet secure.
• Street conditions: República de Cuba, República de Chile, and Donceles have narrow pavements and uneven stone paving.
• Busy areas: The Bellas Artes esplanade and Alameda can be very crowded or host protest camps, so secure valuables.
• Road crossing: After stop 8, only cross Eje Central with the pedestrian walk signal, as it has multiple traffic lanes.
• Altitude note: Mexico City sits at about 2,240 m, so walk slowly and drink water, especially on your first day.
