Why You Shouldn’t Miss This
The landscape of Iceland comprises a number of unique geological formations that are present around this landmass. Volcanoes and vibrant mountain ranges form a majority of these. Glacial rivers, hot springs, black sand beaches, glaciers, waterfalls and lava fields are just a few examples of the multitude of landscapes that are visible throughout Iceland. Approximately 50% of the land area is rocky lava deserts, and glaciers cover about 10% of the area. It is highly geologically active and has a widespread availability of geothermal power.
Several adventure activities are possible in Iceland. In particular, at Langjokull, snowmobile rides and super-jeep rides are immensely popular. The ice is more than half a kilometer thick and at some regions, and the glacier is the second largest in the country. It is one of the few obscure and isolated regions in the world that has absolutely no human life on it.
Your full day tour will begin at the Thingvellir National Park. The plate activity is quite visible here in the form of the rift valley, and the biggest lake in Iceland can be seen here. The raised mass of land surrounds a low lying region and creates a huge natural amphitheater. Your tour guide will provide you with the historical and cultural significance of this region, and the oldest parliament in the world. A lot of vegetation can be found around the Thingvallavatn Lake, which gets its water from the Silfra fissure. The Geysir geothermal region abounds with many erupting geysers. Geysir, in particular, is believed to be almost 10,000 years old and was the origin of the word “geyser” in English. At the Gullfoss waterfall, the Hvita river seems to vanish into the Earth magically. When you move closer, the canyon comes into view, and the river can be seen cascading down the Gullfoss waterfall. The long crevice is another example of the unique geology of Iceland.
After the conclusion of the Golden Circle tour, a hair-raising adventure in the Highlands of Iceland awaits you. Custom made Super Trucks will take you across the rugged and snowy terrain, and the large tires are the only things that allow you to travel in this distant territory. The untouched environment in the highlands is apparent as soon as you enter the region. The black and grey soil shows no sign of any plant life. Once you have reached the bottom of the Langjokull Glacier, the snowmobile experience will begin. As you drive along the fields of snow and ice, the remoteness of the region is striking. Sailing over the glistening ice is undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
