Why You Shouldn’t Miss This
The Western region of Iceland is well-known for its geothermal activity. Being located on the meeting point of the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates, volcanic activity is quite common and has led to the formation of some of the most eye-catching natural attractions in the world. The Secret Lagoon natural pool is one of the hot springs that are plentiful in the region. Unlike the other popular lagoons, such as the Fontana Spa and the Blue Lagoon, the Secret Lagoon has not been expanded or improved in many aspects. As a result, one gets a very natural and raw experience, and much of the original beauty is still intact. Originally called “The old pool” after translation into English, it is well-immersed with history.
The Golden Circle is one of the most popular day tours of Iceland. The top attractions of the island country can be seen, and is an excellent tour to get a quick peek into Iceland’s natural wonders.
Your tour will begin with a visit to the Secret Lagoon, a hot spring. Entry into the water is included in the tickets, and you will even be provided a towel on exiting the pool. The water is at a soothing 40 degrees Celsius and is the perfect temperature to enjoy a relaxing bath. Your body, mind, and soul will get their much-needed break, as the warm water will alleviate all physical and mental stress. It is the perfect beginning to your day tour, and the entire trip is the perfect getaway.
You will then be taken to another geothermal region, although this one is known for its geysers. Geysir, one of the geysers in the region, is dormant. Strokkur, however can be seen erupting with hot water up to a height of nearly 40 meters. With a visitor center present nearby, it is the perfect spot to enjoy some lunch and fuel yourself after spending a few hours in the hot springs. Next up on the itinerary is Gullfoss Waterfall. It presents a spectacular optical illusion, seeming as if it is a lake, ending abruptly. On closer inspection, you will see a long crevice exists perpendicular to the flow of the river, and the sight of water gushing down. The spray of water as it crashed into the canyon floor is magical to witness.
The Thingvellir National Park is the last stop on the itinerary, and you can see some unusual volcanic and tectonic formations here. The crystal clear waters in these regions is a testament to the untouched state of this region, and it is beautiful to behold. At the end of the day, you will have had the complete Icelandic experience on this 10 hour tour.
