GroupVerified booking2 weeks ago5/5The tour was seamless, from the website to the admission staff, group size, to our magical guide. We spent the most time with D'quawn. He was down to earth, moved us along at a fair pace, pointed out things we would have definitely missed. He helped us with our photography & science skills. He of course shared both his knowledge of the area and his Navajo culture. He introduced the group by asking us where we were from. Imagine at least 3 -4 different countries, I'm sure everyone, has different religions, different, skin color, different political views, however, we all respected each other and we all enjoyed a magical place! Thanks Headout we had a blast!! PeaceJJo M
CoupleVerified booking3 weeks ago5/5We had the best tour guide. She was very informative. Showed us where to stand to get the best pictures and even volunteered to take some of each group in the tour. We did the trip without transportation. It is about a mile from where you park. Total time to get there about 25 min and approximate same time to get back. Highly recommend the experience.RRoger B
SoloVerified booking2 weeks ago4/5The only downside was the weather, blowing sand in winds gusting over 45mph, with rain after. The upper slot canyon is a marvelous geologic feature. Our guide Ty-Lynn, gave us the myths associated with Antelope Canyon, the sad history, some tribal philosophy and some hydrological information, and we had a wonderfully international group.CCatherine R
CoupleVerified booking3 weeks ago5/5Kalea was a fantastic guide showing us all the details in the canyon along with great photographic tricks to get the best pictures. The canyon itself was amazing.GGloria L
GroupVerified bookingSep 20265/5Our tour was wonderful! Mostly because our guide, Nolan, was so personable and interesting. He was also knowledgeable having grown up and playing in the canyons as a child. The scenery was beautiful and canyon spectacular. Thanks Hogan tours for an experience we will never forget!
Explore Upper Antelope Canyon on a guided hiking tour paired with a traditional Navajo Hogan cultural presentation.
Getting started
Arrive at the check-in location 80 minutes before your scheduled tour time to allow for processing; the mandatory Navajo permit fee must be paid separately. After check-in, you meet your Navajo guide and receive a brief overview of the hike and conditions inside Upper Antelope Canyon. With your group ready, you set off toward the canyon entrance on foot, prepared for uneven terrain and elevation changes.
What to expect
Upper Antelope Canyon
Upper Antelope Canyon is one of the world's most famous slot canyons, known for its narrow sandstone corridors and distinctive light-filled passageways.
Features
- As entry to Upper Antelope Canyon is included, you step directly into the slot canyon and walk through the sculpted sandstone walls that surround you on both sides. The terrain involves uneven surfaces and some elevation changes, so the focus stays on moving carefully while taking in the environment.
- On the guided hiking tour of Upper Antelope Canyon, your Navajo guide sets the pace and leads you along the main corridor, pointing out how the sandstone shapes interact with the changing light. The route is walked unassisted, so all guests need to be physically capable of navigating the natural surfaces.
- The sandstone corridors create a unique glow as sunlight filters down from above, giving you the chance to experience shifting colors and patterns along the canyon walls. These conditions make it possible to capture photographs that highlight the texture and form of this slot canyon.
- Throughout the canyon walk, you have ample opportunity to capture incredible photographs in this globally recognized landscape, focusing on the interplay of light and shadow rather than using tripods or selfie sticks, which are not allowed.
Traditional Navajo Hogan
After your time inside the canyon, the experience continues with a visit to a traditional Navajo Hogan, a structure that reflects Navajo architectural and cultural practices.
Features
- Your visit to a traditional Navajo Hogan is included in the tour, and this part of the experience is designed as a cultural presentation led by Navajo hosts. You spend focused time inside or around the Hogan, away from the canyon environment.
- During the cultural presentation, you learn about Navajo culture through stories and explanations that connect what you saw in Upper Antelope Canyon with long-standing traditions. This offers a shift from the hiking portion into a more reflective setting centered on heritage.
- The Hogan visit rounds out the tour as a blend of adventure, photography, and cultural heritage, giving context to the land you have just walked through and showing how it relates to Navajo ways of life.
