Went on a cloudy day with rain and thundet which was good - still hot but no sun to contend with and the small showers cooled you down! Unfortunately tickets I bought was not fast track so had to queue to exchange my online booking for a physical ticket - line was long so ended up waiting about 45 mins!!! Pompeii is huge so didn't manage it all even after 3 hours, but saw all the main parts. Could have done with a lift to get in and out as the slope just after the entrance was steep but with time and patience my 83 year old mum managed it! There's a cafe bang in the middle of the site which was a welcome relief. Also water refilling stations along the way too. Glad we went, we got the train which added to the adventure.

As promised, we quickly entered the Pompeii site through the lower gate after collecting our paper entrance ticket. There are several secure parking lots close to this gate. The site itself is truly magnificent and moving. We spent 6.5 hours there, and even then, we gave up on several areas! We didn't book the houses outside the main site. For children, we recommend the children's museum at Porta Sarno, which is well air-conditioned, full of felt-tip pens for drawing and not very crowded. Perhaps it lacks a play area for parents to relax while the little ones run around safely?

The place is so huge and interesting! You can see so much whilst always seeing Mount Vesuvius in the background The only thing that made the experience "good" not "awesome" overall was the fact that you still have to stand in line to redeem your tickets - although they tell you to come earlier since the crowds supposedly arrive around noon or later, we had a feeling that that wasn't the case at all. Whilst leaving around 12PM, there were less people waiting in line than at 9/10AM when we arrived.

Pompeii was very beautiful, and I'm glad we got to experience it. Still had to wait in a bit of a line, however much shorter than the actual ticket line. It was busy, but there were some points where there was no one else near us. It made for good photo opportunities.

Go there. Fantastic. Bring water and walk slowly. Consider the official audio guide. Or use AI (like fx ChatGPT) for very precise guidance. Very hot June to August.

I purchased tickets long before my chosen day to go to Pompeii. The day I arrived I found out that admission was free as it was the first Sunday of the month. Or at any rate it was June 2. I contacted the site explaining the incident and within a few days they refunded me the full amount. I was very pleased. Congratulations. I will reuse this application as soon as I can.

Obviously it's good to save a bit by buying dual tickets. That said it seems a bit daft that at Pompeii you have to queue to change from a digital ticket to a paper one to get in. Surely this needs updating to save everyone time and money.
