Quinta da Regaleira was easily one of my favourite places to visit in Sintra. I especially enjoyed strolling through the huge gardens, with their winding paths, towers, hidden grottoes and views of the surrounding mountains. There’s so much to see that it’s worth taking your time rather than rushing from one attraction to the next. I also liked learning that a lot of thought went into the design of the gardens, wells and underground tunnels, with hidden meanings and references to mythology and old spiritual traditions. It makes you look at the whole place a little differently, knowing that so many of the details are there for a reason. The famous Initiation Well is definitely a highlight, but I was just as impressed by the underground tunnels. Walking through those dimly lit stone passages was quite an experience, especially since some of the rough stones almost look like skulls at first glance. A little eerie, but also really intriguing! And as a lovely little bonus, we even came across a cute cat hanging out in the castle gardens, looking completely at home among all the visitors. Such an unusual and memorable place, and definitely worth spending a few hours exploring!

We were so fortunate as to have Pedro for our tuck tuck guide. Not only did he tour us around Sintra and Cascais but he also took us to the beach and to all of the spots that were not touristy. Pedro has the inside scoop on where to go, where to stand for the best pictures, and what the true important things and must sees are. He is the best guide we have had on any trip bar none. If you want to rent a tuk tuk, make sure you request Pedro. I take my reviews very seriously because I rely on them in booking tours. His knowledge of the history and the area is beyond compare. We very much enjoyed Quinta de Regalaria and the history lesson from Pedro.

Visiting the National Palace of Sintra was a great choice. It is located right in the historic center, making it very accessible. Its two towering white chimneys catch your eye from the outside, but the best part is inside: the traditional azulejo tile collection is impressive, and the rooms (especially the Coat of Arms Room and the Swan Room) are magnificently preserved. The tour takes about 1 to 1.5 hours and is very smooth and easy to navigate. I recommend buying tickets in advance to skip the lines during peak hours. An absolute must-visit if you go to Sintra!

Tucked into the misty hills of Sintra, Quinta da Regaleira is one of the most enchanting places in Portugal, and I'd even say it outshines Pena Palace. Gothic towers, moss-covered gardens, hidden grottoes: every corner feels like a page from a fairytale. The highlight is the Initiation Well, a 27-metre spiral staircase descending into the earth, rich in Masonic symbolism. Dark tunnels lead from its base to a waterfall and a quiet lake. My friends from abroad were spellbound. Go early in the morning, bring a small flashlight for the tunnels, and take your time. Truly a must-see

The Moorish Castle itself was great. Awesome to see how the Moors built the casket and learn the history. However Sintra tourism should make some changes They advise to go to the Pena Palace first early before the lines which we did. However to then get to the Moorish Castle you neeed to go all the way back down to the town on the bus and then back up. They should let you go to the Moorish Caskte first in the am and then go to the front of the line when at the Oen la Palace. It would save a lot of time

The tickets were sold out the day before so I was very happy to get them and visit this crazy place. The views from the various towers were really good. That well was way more interesting than I expected. Be sure to go late in the day when the line is short. There were tunnels and waterfalls and a palace and towers and circular staircases. It was full of surprises and I loved it. Be sure to book tickets! It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the Sintra train station and it's mostly flat.

Loved Pena Palace, truly a must see! Such an impressive piece pice of history. Spent a few hours you can be as long as you want or make it quicker. Plan on arriving in town at least an hour and a half before your time. Loved the Regaleira the well was a highlight there is so many lovely photo opportunities and it's like a fairytale castle. You must wait for your slotted time and will not be admitted early. Loved the day took train from Lisbon was wonderful!

Thanks to being able to book in advance, I didn't have any issues entering the palace. It was a spectacular visit—every hidden corner of its gardens, the grottos in the cave, the passageways, and the facades are beautiful. It's an ideal experience for traveling with kids, friends, or as a couple. You have to walk uphill, which is the most tiring part, but you can sit on the benches along the way. I recommend it 100%.
