We had a fab tour, upgraded to a physical tour guide which was well worth the money.. we saw the baths, the upper class houses, shops and takeaways and houses where several generations would have lived. It was thorough and there were plenty of photo opportunities, we weren't rushed at all. After the tour had finished (2 hours) we were able to stay in Pompeii and continue exploring. I wish we'd done the amphitheater with the guide as I would have liked to have known more about this, that possibly my only criticism. Lovely day, we had lunch in the cafe at Pompeii and this was reasonably priced although queues were long.

We book tickets on the spot to be able to get in right away €32 or so; among the perks it said that the ticket was skip-the-line, while we had to wait in line with everyone who was ticketed at the "park" counter. We point this out to an operator, who replies that it is written that way to attract customers, but in the reality of the facts it is not true.....Anyway, beautiful sitio, audio guide and map indispensable, a magical dip into the past!

Pompeii is a must-see when in Naples or Sorrento. The check-in process was quick and efficient if you have your conformation email and photo ID ready. Be prepared to leave some form of photo ID behind as insurance against the audio guide. Our drivers licences worked well. Also bring along a set of plug-in headphones. The actual self-guided tour was easy to navigate on the device and was clearly marked along the way. Good experience overall.
