Slapstick comedy at its best, The Play That Goes Wrong is the comedic escape you’ve been waiting for! Created by Mischief Theatre Company’s talented team, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, it won Best New Comedy at the 2015 Laurence Olivier Awards and continues to impress critics and audiences alike. Don’t miss the fun and laughs of this brilliant West End comedic masterpiece.
The Play That Goes Wrong premiered at West End’s Old Red Lion Theatre in 2012 and has been sending audiences in a fit of laughter ever since. "As it all goes awry it becomes hard not to gas yourself with laughter. At one point I feared I was going to hyperventilate,” commented theatre critic Quentin Letts of the Daily Mail. A hit with audiences of all ages, it has especially appealed to young fans. The dysfunctional set design coupled with the superb ‘clumsy’ acting by the cast adds the required charm to good writing. It’s entertainment that will leave your ribs hurting from laughing and your mouth stuck in a smile.
The Story
The Play That Goes Wrong follows the antics of the Cornley University Drama Society. The society has the miraculous fortune of staging their production ‘The Murder at Haversham Manor’ at a big city theatre. What happens next is one mishap after the other, with the complete mix of misplaced drinks, actors slipping out of ‘character’ and malfunctioning sets. It’s the story of the behind-the-scenes drama that unfolds in a big theatre production - albeit through a comedic lens!

The characters had invented their own 'actor personalities' which was like playing two characters a piece. The frustration aspect kind of easy to relate to as we all get that in life.Jennifer

Really well orchestrated and choreographed to feel like accidents were truly happening. The swordfights and women fights were hysterical as were the times when the audience had to interrupt. Great show!!Lori
