Unmissable Temporary Exhibition

This collection celebrates the life and work of visionary artist Elliot Erwitt, who turns 94 this year. Over 70 photographs chosen by curator Biba Giacchetti and Erwitt himself encapsulate his ironic touch in recounting the spirit of the 20th century. This exhibition is only available till 22 Jan 2023, so don’t miss the chance to experience it.

Out of these photographs emerge an insightful narrative. As you walk through Villa Bardini, portraits of the world’s great movie stars and powerful leaders look at you, transcending the specter of ‘image’ and touching ‘humanity’.

Public & Private Iconography

Look for the famous portraits of Che Guevara smiling, Marilyn Monroe posing thoughtfully on the set of The Misfits, and other clicks that have made history. For example, the argument between Presidents Richard Nixon and Nikita Kruschev is a snapshot in which Nixon’s pointing finger makes him look almost threatening.

Don’t miss his portfolio of images devoted to love. Out of these, a recently rediscovered image has two lovers kissing, reflected in the wing mirror of a car at sunset. Erwitt also turns the camera inward and captures his own life. Find photographs of his beloved dogs, as well as a photograph of his firstborn daughter Ellen as a newborn baby on her mother’s bed. His self-portraits are a testament to his unparalleled humor and humility.
