Quinta da Regaleira is an absolute must-see, especially for those who love mysterious and mystical places. However, be sure to set aside extra time for the journey. We were late for our appointment due to a fire on the road and the resulting traffic. Sintra is a small town with very narrow streets, and since it was impossible for our cab to take an alternative route, we had to hike downhill and then back uphill. Even though we missed our scheduled entrance time, the staff was kind enough to let us in anyway. You need at least 3 hours to fully see and enjoy the park and the castle. If you have the time, I also highly recommend visiting Biester Palace; it is very close to Quinta da Regaleira and easy to see on the same day.

The visit to Quinta da Regaleira was not only a wonderful tour but a truly immersive experience among all the attractions it offers: from the palace to the gardens, from the caves to the towers. The sites are all well-maintained and clearly marked; they are easily accessible and intuitive to navigate. The highlight of this complex is undoubtedly the Initiation Well. There is a single entrance where the tour continues down a flight of stairs until you reach the bottom, where you’ll find a small waterfall and a cave. The gardens feature diverse vegetation and beautiful flowers that line the entire path.

With the tickets we bought online, we were able to go straight through the entrance to the park. The park is very beautiful and quite large. We walked to the palace. There is also a shuttle. The distance is not very far, but it is relatively steep going up and down. Good footwear is important. The palace itself is very impressive and the richly decorated rooms are fascinating. The online guide provides further information on all the stops outside and inside the palace. It is important to arrive at the palace on time for your booked slot in order to be admitted. There was a short wait (15 minutes in our case) before the booked time.

The visit to the Palácio da Pena was truly impressive and definitely worth 4 stars! I especially loved the beautiful walking trails through the sprawling park, which were perfect for enjoying nature and discovering new, stunning views at every turn. The lines were pleasantly short and well-organized. Of course, as expected, it was a bit crowded, but that didn’t detract much from the overall beautiful and special atmosphere. Visiting Quinta da Regaleira was simply the absolute highlight of my trip! Getting in was a breeze, and the wait was surprisingly short. As soon as I stepped onto the grounds, I was captivated by the beautiful, mystical park landscape. I was particularly impressed by the winding tunnels and mysterious caves, it feels like you’re in another world. The Initiation Fountain was the absolute highlight. I can truly recommend this place to anyone who wants to experience something special.

Lovely little palace perched on top of a hill overlooking the valley and the ocean! In my honest opinion , it's not really a palace , but more a palacial summer residence for the king and his family. What's striking is the mish mash of different influences on the architecture and design , so architecture and design buffs will find it very interesting. The park is just nice greenery you can wander through, unless I missed something. All in all, it's a good day outing from Lisbon

Pena Palace

The attraction may be crowded, so expect some waiting time, especially at the security checkpoint (15–20 minutes).

Your selected time slot is for entry to Pena Palace. Since it’s about a 30-minute walk from the park entrance to the palace, make sure to arrive early. Late arrivals may be denied entry.

Please use the house tour entrance instead of the main gate.

Private vehicles are not permitted, so visitors should use pedestrian trails or public transport.

About 30 km from Lisbon, Pena Palace sits in Sintra, where parking is available in the historic center or outer lots, though spaces can be limited.

The shuttle service covers roundtrip transfers between the park entrance and Pena Palace.

Reduced tickets for children aged 6-18 and seniors aged 65 and above are available onsite.

Quinta da Regaleira

If you can, avoid driving into Sintra; the streets are narrow, parking is limited, and traffic can be challenging, especially in peak season.

Should you drive, park in Sintra town center and enjoy the 30-minute scenic walk to Quinta da Regaleira. Public transport is your best bet to get to Quinta stress-free.
