If you're looking to escape Lisbon's hot afternoon sun, the Oceanário de Lisboa is the perfect place to spend a few hours. I first visited when it opened in 1998, and after all these years, it's still just as impressive. The exhibits are beautifully maintained and offer a fascinating glimpse into the underwater world. The massive central aquarium is the highlight. Every viewing window offers a completely different perspective, revealing new species and scenes each time you stop to look. It's a peaceful, immersive experience that's enjoyable for both kids and adults. Highly recommended if you're visiting Lisbon!

What an amazing place! I loved the numerous viewing platforms for the primary exhibit so that there was no overcrowding and so that I could see the exhibit from different levels and perspectives. The information cards on the walls were simple to read but extremely informative and in numerous languages! The route through the aquarium was well labelled with arrows and lights and useful to see every display. This was an amazing visit. Highly recommend!

I liked everything; the aquarium’s setting was very beautiful and recreated the animals’ natural habitats. I saw some animals I’d seen before. What I liked most was how playful and sociable the otters were. I also got to observe how fascinating animal evolution is, as in the case of the seahorses. It’s incredible how animals get used to living together across different species.

We decided to go in the morning; I bought the tickets through the app, and it was super fast and efficient. With no lines, we arrived right when it opened, got off on the other side to walk around, and came back after a while. The view from the cable car is incredible. An absolutely wonderful experience at the Lisbon Aquarium! 🐠🐟 The tanks are impressive, the species are diverse, and everything is beautifully showcased. It’s a feast for the eyes from start to finish. The large central aquarium is simply fascinating and lets you observe marine life from every angle. The cable car was also a real highlight: a superb view of the Parque das Nações, the Tagus River, and the surrounding area. A very enjoyable experience that perfectly rounds out the visit. I highly recommend this activity to anyone visiting Lisbon!

There were problems at the box office that took a long time to resolve, as I didn't receive the code I needed to enter, but the money for my tickets was debited, so it took half an hour and was resolved through the aquarium box office, so I can't give it a high rating, but overall I liked it.

VERYYY BEAUTIFUL 😍 the aquarium was gorgeous and there was detailed information about the sea creatures. Loved the fact that there were different fishes in different places to easily differentiate the species.

Getting started

Arrive at the North Station or the South Station and present your tickets and official ID. Once your tickets are validated, you will be assigned a cable car for your ride.

What to expect

Lisbon’s only cable car, the Telecabine, inaugurated for the 1998 International Exposition, offers a unique aerial journey. Glide across 1,230 meters between the North and South Stations, taking in panoramic views of the city, the Tagus River, and several iconic landmarks.

The Antarctic habitat is temporarily closed for renovation; penguins are expected to return in 2025.
