The visit was beautiful and amazing, but the audio guides that we rented did not work well. I recommend visiting, but I don't recommend the audio guides.

The scenery and the monetary were beautiful. We were also pleasantly surprised by the art museum as well. It was a lot more extensive than we were expecting. Great hiking to be had as well and some incredible panoramic views. A couple tips though: if you buy the ticket and train ride from Barcelona combo pass, make sure not to schedule the morning pass. The train from Barcelona doesn't even leave until around 0800 and takes a little over an hour to get there. Though if you miss your time slot - you can still get in. You even go to the front of the line. It can just be a little confusing figuring all that out. Also, although this combo pass is great - the passes that were emailed didn't come with instructions on how to actually use it. Turns out that the one QR code is for both the train and the monetary. I did contact support and they d it s send the actual tickets to my email which cleared this up a bit.

All this time we thought it wasn't possible to do a DIY tour for Montserrat that we had to book a bus going there. Thanks to headout for making the DIY experience possible and convenient. Just a reco on the instructions to claim your train tickets in the Place de España ticket booth.

The venue itself is fantastic with beautiful buildings and garden nearby. However a number of facilities was closed for the visitors, which is disappointing. Apart from that everything is great.

The direction was not clear on the ticket and the agent from headout was also reading what I am reading and can not give me extra detail. It's frustating. It was not a pleasant experience , we missed our train going there because of the unclear direction from headout and have to wait extra 1 hour and going back the train broke down so we have to wait an extra 2 hours.

A basilica of reverie

Montserrat comprises the Sanctuary of the Virgin Mary of Montserrat and the Benedictine monastery which for almost 1,000 years has been at the service of pilgrims from all over the world. These pilgrims come to worship the Black Madonna, a Romanesque sculpture dating from the late 12th century featuring delicately carved features. Enjoy skip-the-line tickets to see the Black Madonna, before you set off to explore the rest of Montserrat.

With an audio guide, a map, and an informative booklet, you can discover on your own all the most important facets of the monastery's history, not to mention the major sites of the Sanctuary of Montserrat. The Audiovisual Room Montserrat's scenes showcase what Montserrat is all about and what it means. The exhibition revolves around three main elements: the mountain, the monastery and the sanctuary.

The Museum of Montserrat (MDM) is home to one of the country's most important art collections. Containing works by Caravaggio, El Greco, Rusiñol, Casas, Picasso, Dali, Monet and others, it also has a valuable collection of the Archaeology of the Ancient World with archaeological remains from the Near East (ancient Persia, Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Holy Land). There are also temporary exhibitions in addition to the permanent collection. The MDM was declared a Museum of National Interest in 2006.

Montserrat Boys’ Choir, which serves as the sanctuary of Montserrat, is one of the oldest in Europe that accompanies religious ceremonies and communal prayers in the basilica, from Monday to Friday at 1 pm.

The majority of the Monastery complex is accessible to guests with disabilities but wheelchair users won’t be able to get right up to the Black Madonna.
