It was amazing to be inside such an iconic building where the Royal family have lived for so long, to walk in the same places as them and all the other world famous people who have visited the palace for different reasons. We didn't have a personal guided tour, but used the headset which was very easy to use and easy to listen to. We saw more rooms than I had imagined beforehand - 13 different locations - and were not rushed to leave after our allotted time. To actually stand so close to the two thrones was awesome. The prices charged in the shop and Tearoom, however, were eye watering! Two cardboard cups of tea and a raspberry tart (it was delicious though) cost just a fraction less than our dinner the night before!!

Only a small part of the palace was included in the tour, but I expected that. What was included, was spectacular. The ticket arrangements were dire. It wasn't at all clear where to go. The instructions say "Redemption Point Buckingham Palace Ticket Office on Buckingham Palace Road /Ticket Office at the entrance of The King’s Gallery" It isn't at the entrance to the King's Gallery at all. The directions offered drop the pin on the map in the centre of Buckingham Palace! (See attached image)I know where the palace is, just not where to validate my tickets.

I really enjoyed being able to take my time and see up close the beautiful artwork, sculptures and particularly the life sized portraits from so many years ago. It's hard to imagine living in such rich palatial surroundings. How children grow up with this being their norm. The gardens are peaceful and full of birds, and probably other wildlife. A sanctuary in the midst of a crowded busking city. I ended up buying a few things at the gift shop. The staff were very knowledgeable and eager to help.

A unique experience, well managed by palace staff for an efficient and flexible experience that allows you to linger or move on at will. Unfortunately that stands in stark contrast to Headout's customer service. Too much automation in s poorly thought out process. In total a dozen emails and not enough space here to describe the wasted time.

  • Explore a working palace

The Buckingham Palace acts as the London residence of His Majesty the King, and one of the few working royal palaces to remain in the world today. Every summer, the doors of the palace are opened for visitors from across the globe to learn facts and discover secrets about the Palace and the State Rooms. The State Rooms have been dubbed the “heart” of Buckingham Palace and include 19 plush rooms, ornated with treasures from the Royal Collection. Some of these treasures include paintings by Canaletto, Rubens, Poussin, and Rembrandt and extravagant sculptures by Canova.

    Learn as you go

Feel free to plug in your multimedia audio guide and walk through the decked-up rooms. Learn about the historical importance of the State Rooms and, in effect, the Palace. Find out how the formerly known “Buckingham House” transformed into the royal palace we know it to be today. End the tour by taking a stroll along the south side of the Palace Garden. The serenity and peaceful surroundings of the Garden will only heighten the views of the palace from this stunning viewpoint.
