We learned the hard way: trying one day to get into the Monastery by simply waiting in line only to run out of time and having to give up. Booking tickets online with Headout guaranteed us entry, while selecting the exact time we wanted, allowing us to better plan our day. It basically took the headache out of planning, and who wants a headache on a holiday!?

The cloister is absolutely beautiful and well worth a visit. A thorough tour can take anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes. The lines are very long, but arriving well in advance will help reduce your wait time. We were even let in early!

Did not have to wait in a line at all! The staff were very helpful and got us a wheelchair to rent for my mom who has limited mobility. Such a gorgeous piece of history and a must see for anyone who loves gothic architecture.

Although the weight was very long, we had 3:30 PM tickets and didn't get it until 4:30 PM.… It was worth it as the grounds were beautiful in the building and artwork were amazing. Definitely worth the wait.

Very nice place and easy to buy tickets on ur website. The jeronimo monastary is such a beautifull place and really looks like poudlard in harry potter movies.

We reached at the venue on around 3:45 PM and there was a huge queue for the same timeslot (03:30 PM slot), which was ok, as it moved pretty quickly at we entered around 4:15 PM, but what the security staff did not intimate was the closing time. The cloisters were beautiful, and we took a lot of photos, and came down around 5:02 PM, and they had already closed the church and the vasco da gama tomb. There was no information onsite about the closing of monastry even for visitors who were admitted. We requested the official to let us enter for 2 mins, as there were people already in the church but he denied stating we close at 05:00 and we should come the next day. People come from all over the world, and such a small request when the actual closing time is 5:15, could have easily accomodated but the lack of information, late entry into the monastary and officiers behaviour was all that took away the experience. Also ticket price is expensive as half the monastary is under restotation

The Monastery is definitely a must-see when in Lisbon; however, the organisation regarding tickets and the overall visit was very poor due to lack of information available online. The staff were extremely rude and seemed annoyed by tourists. There was very little information displayed, which was quite confusing, and there was not much information inside either. It is stated online that shorts are not allowed; however, many people were wearing them.

Buying tickets through this platform is fine, but you shouldn’t have to download the app just to show them to the staff at the attraction. The cloister is wonderful, but the tour itself is rather brief. The tickets are too expensive for how little there is to see. If you only have a few days in Lisbon, the Jerónimos Monastery is not a must-see.

Castle was delightful, wonderful views, and so peaceful too. Peacocks an added bonus and walking around the surrounding area was also fab. Once inside the monastery .... wow oh wow oh wow. Breathtaking stonemasonary. But be prepared for the queues. It's supposed to be better after 4.00pm but can't confirm. Ps the famous pasteis de belem is next door.
  • Spend a sun-soaked day in Belém ticking off two of Lisbon's UNESCO heavyweights. History nerds, this combo is your jam.

    Getting started

Show your e-ticket at Belém Tower's main entrance for a quick scan, then collect or activate your audio guide near the door. After exploring, walk 10 minutes along the Tagus to Jerónimos Monastery, where staff check your second ticket at the church or cloister entry and your digital audio guide loads straight onto your phone.

    What to expect

    Belém Tower

Belém Tower has been guarding Lisbon's harbour since 1519, and it's the city's most photogenic UNESCO postcard. Built as a riverside fortress to defend the Tagus and bid farewell to outbound explorers, it's a Manueline masterpiece of carved stone ropes, watchtowers, and royal flourishes.

    Features:

    • Climb to the rooftop: Spiral up the narrow staircase to the top terrace for sweeping views over the Tagus, the 25 de Abril Bridge, and Lisbon's red-tiled rooftops in the distance.

    • Spot the famous rhino: Hunt down the carved rhinoceros tucked into the tower's western corner, a 16th-century stone tribute to one gifted to the king.

    • Upgrades: The multilingual digital audio guide brings the bastion, dungeon, and chapel to life with tales of explorers heading to India and prisoners held below.

    Jerónimos Monastery

Jerónimos Monastery is Lisbon's gold-leaf flex, a vast UNESCO-listed Manueline complex finished over a hundred years. King Manuel I built it to honour Vasco da Gama's return from India, and it's been hosting Portugal's biggest royal moments ever since.

    Features:

    • Vasco da Gama & Camões: Bow your head at the tombs of Vasco da Gama and poet Luís de Camões, lying just inside the church entrance, side by side like Portugal's two great icons.

    • Soaring Santa Maria church: Step into the Church of Santa Maria for impossibly tall palm-tree columns, ribbed ceilings, and ribbons of light pouring through stained-glass windows.

    • Upgrades: The multilingual digital audio guide decodes every carved symbol and royal tomb, turning a quiet wander into a self-led history class.

  • What to bring

    Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery
