It’s not a skip-the-line ticket, but the wait was minimal—about 15 minutes—despite the large crowds (visit took place in August). Admission to the church is free, but you have to wait in another line once you exit the monastery (this one was quick as well).

The architecture of the Monastery is amazing. The waiting line under the summer sun can be long to endure, and the visit inside won't be a long one, because it's actually a small place, but it's absolutely worth the visit, it feels magical. Don't forget to get some pasteis de Belem to eat not far from the Monastery.

The highlight was the extraordinary cloister, which we were able to enjoy for as long as we wanted. But it was a shame that, due to restoration work on part of the complex, that section was covered in scaffolding and tarps. The fact that we could visit the church for free was a plus, but we weren’t told that we had to wait in a second line to do so.

Date closure: Restoration work may lead to temporary closures. The Jerónimos Monastery remains closed on Monday, 1st January, Easter Sunday, 1st May, and 25th December.

Timing closure: The Monastery is closed between 9:30am and 1pm on October 24th and December 5th.
