A wonderful experience and a beautiful journey amidst the mountains and breathtaking scenery. The funicular railway is enjoyable, the place is full of magnificent views, the Black Virgin Church is stunningly beautiful, and the museum is filled with beautiful paintings and historical artifacts. The cinematic presentation is dazzling and well worth a visit.

Alles hat super geklappt. Man sollte in der Wegbeschreibung erwähnen , dass der Ticketschalter sich bei der Bahnstation im Untergrund befindet. Auf dem Hinweis per E-Mail wird ein Foto von einem Platz gezeigt. Dort befindet sich der Ticketschalter allerdings nicht. Man findet ihn im Untergeschoss beim Eingang zur Bahnstation. Dort erhält man auch seine Tickets. Bis zur Statuion Monistrol de Montserrat fahren und bei der Zahnradbahn aussteigen. Die erste Station, welche Montserrat beschildert ist, ist die Seilbahn. Dieser Hinweis fehlt ebenfalls in der Beschreibung. Die Zahnradbahn fährt nur einmal pro Stunde. Vorher bitte den Fahrplan prüfen, damit man nicht zu lange auf die Abfahrt der Zahnradbahn warten muss. Ansonsten war es ein toller Ausflug, wenn man diese kleinen Punkte beachtet ich kann es jedem empfehlen

Hat alles gut geklappt der Zug war aber Ultra voll. Allerdings wollen die 50€ Kaution für das Audio Guide das sollte man in der Beschreibung hier erwähnen, deshalb nur 4 Sterne da diese doch wichtige Info fehlte. ( Cash or card is possible)

Could not do audio as Montserrat wanted a $50 per unit deposit upfront. Directions were bad. Had to purchase arial tram which worked out being way cool. It is an uphill climb, so 3 in my party had difficulty walking.

Lo que más me gustó del tour fue la combinación de naturaleza y cultura. El trayecto en tren fue cómodo y muy fácil de seguir, y al llegar, el monasterio impresiona desde el primer momento. La audioguía está muy bien hecha y ayuda a entender la historia de Montserrat y el significado de La Moreneta. La visita fue organizada, tranquila y con tiempo suficiente para disfrutar de las vistas y la atmósfera del lugar.

Discover Montserrat independently, with timed access to its most revered icon, La Moreneta, and plenty of flexibility to explore the sanctuary before or after your reserved slot.

Getting started

Head to the Montserrat Information Office and have your ticket ready for validation. Your selected time applies specifically to your visit to the Black Madonna, so make sure you arrive at the sanctuary with enough time before your slot.

If you select the transport upgrade, travel from Barcelona by FGC train and continue from Monistrol de Montserrat to the sanctuary aboard the rack railway.

What to expect

Black Madonna

Enter the Throne of Our Lady at your reserved time to approach the 12th-century Black Madonna, one of Catalonia’s most important religious icons.

Museum of Montserrat

Explore one of Montserrat’s major cultural spaces, with works by artists including Caravaggio, El Greco, Picasso, Dalí and Monet, alongside archaeological collections from the ancient world.

Espai Audiovisual

Discover Montserrat through an audiovisual experience centred on its three defining elements: the mountain, the monastery and the sanctuary.

Explore independently

Use your audio guide, map and informative booklet to discover the sanctuary and its history at your own pace.

Upgrades

Train + Rack Railway: Add train travel from Barcelona-Pl. Espanya and continue up the mountain aboard the Montserrat Rack Railway.

Escolania Choir: Choose the Choir option to attend the Escolania Boys’ Choir performance. Your Choir reservation is for 1pm, and you should arrive 15 minutes early. Your visit to the Chapel of Our Lady must take place after 3:30pm with this option.

What to bring

Bring a valid photo ID matching the name on your booking.

Bring your phone and earphones to use the downloadable audio guide.

What’s not allowed

Dress appropriately for a religious site.

Photos inside the Basilica are permitted without flash when no service is taking place.

Avoid taking photos at the Throne of Our Lady, as this can slow the queue and disturb other visitors.

Do not enter worship areas during services unless you are attending the service.

Additional information

Your selected time slot is specifically for the Black Madonna. You can visit the other included areas before or after it, subject to their opening hours.

The Tabernacle of Our Lady may close during religious services.

Between 10:30am and 12pm, Basilica access is reserved for those attending Conventual Mass.

From Monday to Friday between 12:15pm and 1:15pm, Basilica access is reserved for visitors with an Escolania reservation.

For the Choir option, the performance is scheduled for 1pm. Arrive 15 minutes early, and visit the Chapel of Our Lady after 3:30pm.

Choir performances can change according to religious celebrations and the school calendar.

For the Train + Rack Railway option, FGC trains from Barcelona-Pl. Espanya begin at 8:26am. Plan your journey around your Black Madonna slot.
