Inside the basilica, see the grand baldacchino, a pavilion-like structure, created by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, which stands above the papal altar. See treasures like Bernini's Baldacchino as you visit the Renaissance-style cathedral with its iconic dome and unparalleled architecture. One of Michelangelo's masterpieces, the sculpture "Pieta," depicting the Virgin Mary holding the body of Jesus after the Crucifixion, is housed inside the basilica.
