About Plitvice Lakes National Park
With its 16 interconnected lakes, abundant waterfalls, unique topography, and stunning landscapes, Plitvice Lakes National Park draws over 1 million visitors each year. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979, it is a testament to Croatia’s ecological diversity.
Plitvice Lakes National Park features an underground river, the source of the Korana River, which contributes to the region’s dynamic hydrogeological system.

The Upper Lakes

Entrance 1/North Entrance
Entrance 1 or the North Entrance is located near the Lower Lakes of Plitvice Lakes National Park. It is open on all days of the week from 7 AM/8 AM to 3 PM. It can be accessed by visitors as well as tour groups to begin exploring from the Lower Lakes. On average, the wait time at this entrance is around 10-15 minutes.
Entrance 2/South Entrance
The South Entrance or Entrance 2 is located near the Upper Lakes. It is open on all days of the week from 7 AM/8 AM to 3 PM, but is closed during the winter months from November to March. Visitors and tour groups who want to explore the Upper Lakes first can use this entrance. On average, the wait time is around 10-15 minutes.
Auxiliary/Flora Entrance
The third or the Flora entrance is an auxiliary entrance and is the least frequently used. You cannot buy tickets at this entrance and can enter only if you have already purchased one online or at one of the two main entrances. It is located halfway between the man entrances, near one of the boat terminals, and has short or no waiting times.
- Plitvice Lakes National Park is open 365 days a year. However, the public access hours vary depending upon the season.
- Due to the weather conditions, the Upper Lakes are closed for visitors during winter and open again only in April.
There are three visitor parking areas at Plitvice Lakes National Park. P1 is located near the Entrance 1 (North Entrance) and P2 and P3 are located near Entrance 2 (South Entrance).
Due to the location and the terrain at Plitvice Lakes National Park, not all its paths and trails are wheelchair-friendly. But certain areas are accessible for wheelchair users through the more level paths, ramps and wooden boardwalks.
Pets are allowed inside Plitvice Lakes National Park but they must be kept on a leash at all times.
