Santa Croce is by far one of the most beautiful and interesting churches - brilliant for the casual tourist and art nerd alike. So many art works and monuments that broke the mould. The thinkg that spoils so many evnts like this is the queues and crowds. Top tips: book your ticket online and do it for the first slot of the weekday of your choice. Most tourists will not get there until you are leaving and do the gallery shuffle like their feet are tied together.

We booked tickets for Santa Croce at the last minute - about 30 minutes before walking in - while eating lunch in the area and knowing we had extra time to visit this church. So glad we visited! Beautiful, historic church featuring the graves of many famous Florentines. Plus, an important church for the city of Florence in an important civic neighborhood. Easy to purchase tickets, ready in time for our visit. Perfect last minute choice.

We arrived before the scheduled time for our visit. They let us in and we didn't wait in line. The staff at the front desk was very friendly. We were given audio guides which were very helpful. Basilicata is a treasure chest of beauty, The works take your breath away. It is a visit that absolutely should be made.

Santa Croc was so much more than I expected. I would have missed a lot without the Audio. I wasn't sure which way to go, as no direction advice in Audio, but I picked up a site map on the way in and found everything. A must see in Florence, fascinating history, background information on the Audio to set each area in place and time.

I didn't enjoy the experience, as the basilica is undergoing major renovation work. I would have liked to have been warned.

Church very well located, easy access, respect of the ticket, no waiting, very beautiful church, well presented, magnificent stained glass windows.
  • An exhilarating experience with your imagination guiding you through the cloisters and the chapels of the complex, this skip the line ticket would ensure you explore all in a day while saving you from the ticketing queue.

    Getting Started

Arrive at the visitor entrance of Santa Basilica Croce, situated towards its north in Largo Bargellini and present your tickets to directly enter the complex.

    What to Expect

The complex is a mosaic of Italian Gothic architecture with the basilica, the Pazzi Chapel, and the Medici chapel reflecting centuries of cultural preservation. The Refectory retells stories of shared meals among the friars while hosting masterpieces such as Donatella’s St Louis of Toulouse and Taddeo Gaddi’s Tree of Life and Last Supper. Exploring the complex further you would also get a chance to pay your respects to the resting places of legends such as Michelangelo, Galileo Galilei, and Niccolò Machiavelli on this tour.

    Features

Santa Basilica Croce exhibits a standout feature of displaying evolution of various art themes such as Taddeo Gaddi’s Last Supper and Giorgio Vasari’s Last Supper painted 200 years apart from each other. While admiring these masterpieces, do not forget to witness Pio Fedi’s Freedom of Poetry, a marble statue symbolizing freedom of expression. It is believed that Freedom of Poetry inspired the Statue of Liberty of New York!
