Took the 2-day ticket with my partner and split the routes over two mornings. Loved the flexibility—could just chill at a coffee shop and not stress about catching the next bus. The Soweto guide, Lindiwe, was EPIC, full of stories and local tips. Mandela House was busy but worth the wait. Heads-up: You can’t take pics inside some museums, so save your phone battery for outside shots.

Took my two teens on the hop-on bus and honestly, it was a hit. They usually just want wifi but even they got into the history stuff when we hit the Apartheid Museum. Our driver was super friendly, cracked jokes and pointed out some street art I’d have missed. Soweto extension was worth every rand—learned so much. Bring snacks, though, the options at stops are a bit limited.

It was an amazing experience with fantastic guides and incredible animal encounters: Manta Rays, various colorful fishes and underwear creatures. On the way back to Bali we even saw dolphins. That was the best tour we had: the Lunch was spent at a restaurant with a breathtaking view and the team took perfect care of our little boy (8years). Highly recommended!

Took the city bus tour with my boyfriend and we both LOVED it. We’re not really 'tour people', but this felt chill and not stiff at all. Got our tickets on a whim after breakfast and hopped on near our hotel. The audio guide actually kept us listening (even him, and he usually zones out). We did the Soweto add-on and that’s where it got really interesting. Our guide—think his name was Sipho?—grew up there and had stories for daaaays. The whole vibe was welcoming, like you could ask anything. We stopped for a drink at a shebeen (def recommend the local beer, can’t remember the name but it was GOLD). At one point, a group of school kids started dancing on the street and we got pulled in, totally unplanned but made my day. Only minus: some parts felt a bit rushed, but honestly, I’d do it again. Bring a sweater, the top deck gets windyyy.

If ur looking for a safe way to see Joburg, this is it. Did the red + green lines in 1 day, plus Soweto next day. Loved that the guides are locals—makes such a difference. Learned a LOT. Only thing: buses can get full midday, so go early if u wanna sit up top.

Solo backpacking in SA. Did the bus tour to kill a day and wow, didn’t expect to learn so much. Staff were chill, and you get to see both the polished and gritty parts of the city. Soweto guide was LEGENDARY—made us try some weird snacks (mopane worms…not for me).
