Pro tips to help you make a pick

Skip the line to save time. Queues at the ticket counter can stretch over an hour, especially on weekends and holidays. Our skip-the-line tickets help you get straight to the good stuff.

Know what kind of visit you want. If you're the kind who likes to move at your own rhythm, go for the self-guided ticket. You’ll get flexible entry and the freedom to explore all 23 exhibition halls at your own pace.

Want more depth? Choose the guided tour. An expert guide helps make sense of what you’re seeing—from the myth behind the Aztec Sun Stone to the meaning of burial offerings in Mayan tombs.

Pair it with Chapultepec Castle. If you’ve got a half day, the combo tour is a winner. You’ll visit Mexico’s only royal castle and then head to the museum, with a guide explaining it all in either English or Spanish.

Doing a big cultural day? Book the Teotihuacán + Museum combo. It’s ideal if you want to cover ancient pyramids and museum highlights in one go, without planning each leg on your own. Plus, transfers are included if you want them.

Did you know?

The museum holds the Aztec Sun Stone, often mistaken for a calendar. It's one of the most recognized symbols of Mexico’s past, carved with cosmic myths and rituals.

You’ll find a replica of Pakal’s tomb—a detailed reconstruction of the Maya ruler’s burial chamber, complete with the famous jade mask.

Its central courtyard has a “floating” roof, supported by a single pillar known as “El Paraguas,” or “The Umbrella.” It’s a marvel of modern Mexican architecture.

The museum is organized by culture, not timeline. You walk into worlds—Toltec, Maya, Aztec—each with its own story and atmosphere.

Why visit Anthropology Museum?

See the iconic Aztec Sun Stone up close

This world-famous artifact is one of the most powerful symbols of Mexican identity. Carved with incredible detail, the Sun Stone captures the Aztec view of time, gods, and the universe. Standing in front of it feels like standing before history itself.

Travel through Mexico’s ancient civilizations

Walk through rooms dedicated to the Olmecs, Maya, Mexica, and more. Each gallery is curated with original artifacts, scale models, and immersive exhibits that bring thousands of years of indigenous history to life.

Explore life-sized recreations and temple replicas

From a replica of a Mayan tomb to a Teotihuacan mural room, the museum brings history into the present. These full-scale displays help you see not just what these cultures made, but how they lived.

Step into the open-air courtyard with a waterfall roof

The central courtyard, with its massive concrete umbrella and cascading water column, is an architectural wonder. It’s peaceful, grand, and symbolic of nature and culture coming together.

A must for history lovers, students, and families

Whether you’re a researcher, a curious traveler, or on a family outing, the museum offers something for every age and interest. It’s not just a museum—it’s one of the most important cultural institutions in Latin America.

I was truly ignorant of the number of cultures that existed in prehispanic Mexico. I knew only of the Aztec and the Mayan cultures and nothing of the several others from different parts of Mexico. This trip to the Museum has opened my eyes to the history of this fascinating country.

Went solo, made friends on the bus. Dad Tonio (as everyone called him) is a walking encyclopedia! Really liked how he made jokes and kept us smiling even when the sun got HOT. Just bring a hat and some pesos for the bathroom. Would go again for sure.
