Located on the eastern side of the Piazza del Plesbiscito, the Royal Palace, also known as Palazzo Reale is dubbed Naples' very own Versailles. Home to a rich collection of paintings, frescoes, tapestries, chandeliers, and furniture from the 17th to the 19th centuries, this palace-turned-museum offers a rare glimpse into the city’s glorious past. For three centuries, the palace was the seat of the monarchy in Naples and Southern Italy, beginning with the early Spanish and Austrian Viceroys, followed by the Bourbon Kings, all the way up to the House of Savoy.
Admire the majestic facade of the palace, visit the Historical Apartment, tour the belvedere courtyard and the hanging gardens which offer a wonderful view of the Gulf of Naples and Vesuvius, discover over two-million texts in the National Library dedicated to Victor Emmanuel III of Savoy, and explore the famous Throne room, Palatine Chapel, Hall of Hercules and Hall of the Ambassadors.
