The easy and convenient access to secured tickets through the app made for a seamless experience. I appreciate the separate tab that allows you to locate the tickets easily and the option or app feature to make the tickets accessible offline, as museums do not always have good cell or mobile data reception. Thank you Headout, looking forward to another experience through this app!

I live in Perth and visit the NGV everytime we come to Melbourne to see our family. The gallery never ceases to impress with its artwork and interesting exhibitions plus friendly and helpful staff. I grew up in the 50s and 60s so the punk era passed me by. The Westwood/Kawakubo provided a wonderful and fascinating insight into this period. Thoroughly enjoyable - thank you

Spent a delightful day with my Art teacher son who had not heard of these iconic designers. We both marveled at the creativity of the garments...from Punk tartan to sophisticated ball gowns. No waiting for access as I pre booked tickets online. Even parking was super easy just across the road. Thanks NGV for another wonderful experience.

The exhibition was huge. So much work went into it and the different galleries were amazing. So many pieces on show. It was much more than I first thought. All different media and display types. Video and film ,photos and drawings. You followed the stories and lives of the two designers through their work. Absolutely brilliant.

Ticket purchase was straightforward, easy access to NGV from Flinders Street Station, no waiting time, straight into exhibition. Exhibition was brilliant, breathtaking, learned so much about Westwood and Kawakubo. Finished with lunch at NGV. Would definitely recommend. Fabulous day out in Melbourne's Art Precinct.

The Westwood | Kawakubo Exhibition was superb. There is a lot to see and a lot to read. My only suggestion is that the corridors with all the printed displays could have been wider allowing those who wanted to read everything more uninterrupted space. It did get a bit congested in these areas.
    • Step inside NGV International with full-day access to Westwood | Kawakubo, a world-first exhibition uniting two fashion icons in dialogue.

    • Explore 140+ rare works, including 40 runway pieces donated by Rei Kawakubo.

    • See Westwood’s silk ballgowns face Kawakubo’s vinyl deconstructions, corsets clash with sculptural voids, each gallery unfolding like a five-act opera.

    • Stand inches from fashion landmarks: Kate Moss’s tartan gown, Sarah Jessica Parker’s Sex and the City wedding dress, Naomi Campbell’s platforms, and Rihanna’s 2017 Met Gala dress.

    • Go beyond garments with film, photography, and archival material that unpack the cultural rebellions stitched into every piece.

Fabulous exhibition, beautifully displayed, however it was hard to read the large informational material on the walls, when the letters were a similar colour to the background colour, made worse by the dim light at these areas. The visit was a present for my friend'S 77th birthday and she's also thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • Stand between two fashion revolutions: Vivienne Westwood’s punk provocations and Rei Kawakubo’s radical abstractions, in one world-first exhibition.

    Getting started

Your visit begins at NGV International on St Kilda Road; check in at the ground-floor exhibition desk and scan your ticket. Dimmed galleries, spotlighted mannequins, and film projections set a theatrical mood: textures, seam,s and soundtracks read clearly. Pick up a printed map or download NGV’s sensory guide; the cloakroom and toilets are adjacent for quick stops between galleries.

    What to expect

Move through five themed galleries: Punk and Provocation, Rupture, Reinvention, The Body and The Power of Clothes, where garments, photos, and runway films converse. Spot Westwood’s tartan gown and corseted wedding dress and Kawakubo’s sculptural petal dress (Rihanna’s Met Gala look). Expect close-reading points, short film loops, and bench seating between rooms. Staff manage accessibility services, enforce no-touch preservation rules, and can advise on quieter routes if crowds worry you.

    Features
    • 140+ garments and archives sourced from NGV’s collection and global institutions, plus rare pieces from private lenders.

    • 40 runway looks donated by Rei Kawakubo, including Rihanna’s sculptural Met Gala dress.

    • Pop-culture icons on display: Kate Moss’s tartan gown, Sarah Jessica Parker’s corseted dress, and Naomi Campbell’s infamous heels.

    • Five thematic galleries create a cinematic arc, contrasting rebellion with abstraction and letting ideas collide in the space.

    • Immersive storytelling design with runway footage, archival film, and atmospheric staging that deepens context beyond the clothes.
