In Joe White's tragic love tale, a codependent couple fights alcoholism together while making last-ditch efforts to rescue themselves. Blackout Songs, White's most recent autobiographical work, depicts the many sides of the struggle to overcome drinking. An emotional connection is formed during an unexpected AA gathering. They feel an immediate attraction to one another. They start drinking again after a short break. There's a nagging suspicion that they've crossed paths before, maybe even in another life... yet that can't be the case; maybe they're only concerned with the welfare of others.
