An immense and historic salt mine, now used for tourism, with restaurants and a spa inside, as well as a huge hall used as a church. 380 steps to descend along an entirely wooden section. More steps later, but always going down, as well as some long corridors to walk. Traumatic at the end, when the guide finishes their job, because to reach the elevator you have to walk in groups for about 1 km. And the elevator takes you to the center of the town, so it's about another 5-minute walk to get back to the parking lot. The tour is worth it, and the Italian-speaking guide was thorough. Too bad those at the back of the group often couldn't hear the guide over the radio. The driver Oliver, who took us to the mine, was excellent.

Well, the round trip by taxi with Sylvestre was on time and very pleasant. The conversation was conducted via mobile phone translation and was hassle-free. The salt mine was really worth seeing, but the tour groups with a German-speaking guide from the mine were clearly too large. The guide explains something at the front of the group that the visitors at the back in the narrow passages cannot see at all yet. The communication via radio earphones works okay-ish. It is a bit of a conveyor-belt experience. According to information from the mine, there had already been 1 million visitors to the mine by the time of our visit in September.

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is impressive. I was blown away by the fact that the tourist area you can visit is only 1% of the entire mine, meaning it is absolutely huge. It is very beautiful, and I find the human capacity to build such incredible things mind-blowing. I loved the tour guide—she was great, looked after the group at all times, and was very friendly. Outstanding.
