An extreme thank you to our guide, Krisna (@wholeday_balitrip) for an adventure of a lifetime! Thank you for your patience and consideration. We not only only got to view the beautiful Uluwatu temple but learned so much about the history of the temple and people through Kris's detailed descriptions. Our journey to and from the temple was seamless and one for the books. Thank you for the car karaoke Kris! Definitely an experience I'll remember for a long time!

Yogi was fantastic. He was very friendly and pointed out famous sights on the way to Uluwatu. He was very knowledgeable about the temple and guided us to the best place to sit for the Fire Dance. I did this tour on my first night in Bali and it was a great way to spend the evening. Watch out for the cheeky monkeys. Thank you Yogi! Thankyou Yogi!

The booking was very straightforward. The e-tickets from the cell phone were exchanged for tickets at the entrance to the theater. We were there 2 hours before the show started. And had enough time to see the temple and the grounds.
    • Enjoy the Kecak & Fire Dance show seated in the amphitheater beside the Uluwatu temple, and watch a troupe of around 75 dancers re-enact the episodes from the Ramayana epic.

    • The show begins as the sun sets over the ocean, with performers in colorful costumes and makeup chanting in rhythm against the cliff-side backdrop.

    • Opt for a shared tour or a private tour for round-trip hotel transfers from select areas; both include access to the Uluwatu Temple, a sacred 11th-century Balinese site, along with skip-the-line entry to the Kecak & Fire Dance Show and English-speaking guide.

We visited the Uluwatu Kecak (Fire) Dance, and the setting alone makes it worth considering. The amphitheatre sits right on the cliff edge overlooking the ocean, and it truly is one of the most beautiful places in Bali to watch the sunset. If you’re interested in experiencing traditional Balinese culture, this is a fantastic opportunity. A word of advice: use the toilet before you go. The facilities were memorable for all the wrong reasons — definitely something to avoid if you can. There are also quite a few monkeys hopping around, similar to Monkey Forest, so take the same precautions. Don’t bring food, keep a firm grip on your sunglasses, hats, and anything loose. We watched monkeys steal items from several people. The amphitheatre faces the sunset and the stage, making it a stunning backdrop for the performance. For Western visitors, though, be aware that the storyline can be a little confusing, and the chanting can feel repetitive. We noticed many Westerners leaving even before the show officially began, possibly overwhelmed by the crowds or unsure of what to expect. We chose to stay until the end but left one or two minutes early, which was the perfect strategy — it allowed us to avoid the huge queues of people and the heavy traffic leaving the venue. With hundreds of attendees each night and only one main road in and out, expect congestion and delays. Overall, the dance itself is culturally fascinating, the location is extraordinary, and sunset is breathtaking — just go in prepared, manage your expectations, and plan your exit cleverly.

  • See the famous Kecak Fire Dance performed at the 11th-century Uluwatu Temple—an ancient Balinese sea shrine perched on dramatic ocean cliffs. Choose from ticket-only access or upgrade to a guided tour with hotel transfers and temple entry.

    Getting started

The temple gets crowded before sunset, so arrive at least 30–45 minutes early. Entry gates are located near the main parking area, and staff will scan your ticket upon arrival. Expect a brief security screening and carry a valid ID if joining a guided tour. Sarongs are provided at the entrance as a sign of respect.

    What to expect

    Uluwatu Temple

A historic Balinese Hindu sea temple dating back to the 11th century, Uluwatu is revered for its spiritual significance and cliffside setting, 70 meters above the Indian Ocean.

    The Kecak Fire Dance Show

    • Performed in a stone amphitheater facing the ocean, with the sunset as a dramatic backdrop.

    • 70–75 bare-chested male performers chant “cak-cak-cak” in hypnotic rhythm, re-enacting scenes from the Ramayana.

    • Expect fire-walking, blazing torches, and storytelling through intricate hand gestures and facial expressions.

    • The experience builds to a fiery climax that lights up the night sky—no music, just human vocals and raw energy.

    • The show runs for 60 minutes and is entirely outdoors, so weather is a factor (carry water and sun protection if needed).

    Extras

    Upgrade options:

    • Join-in Tour: Shared round-trip hotel transfers from select areas, English-speaking guide, Uluwatu Temple entry, and show ticket.

    • Private Tour: All of the above, but with a private vehicle and personalized itinerary.

    • Both options let you skip the long entry queues and enjoy cultural insights from your guide.

  • What to bring

    • Bring along your sunglasses, sunscreen, hat & water bottle.

    What's not allowed

    • The experience is not wheelchair and stroller accessible.

    • Pets are not allowed in the temple premises.

    Additional information

    • During high season, you can expect a long waiting queue.

    • Show time:

    • Session 1: 6pm – 7pm

    • Session 2: 7pm – 8pm

    • Duration: 60 minutes

    • It’s recommended to arrive at least 30 minutes before the show to secure a good seat.

    • Private tour hotel transfers are available from Krobokan, Seminyak, Legian, Kuta, Jimbaran, and Nusa Dua. Your driver will contact you the evening before your activity date to confirm the exact pickup time.

    • Dress code: Wear clothing that covers your shoulders and knees as a sign of respect when visiting Uluwatu Temple.

    • Kindly keep a watchful eye on your possessions, as there are monkeys in the vicinity known to pick up and engage with items belonging to the guests.

    • Your voucher will be emailed to you instantly.

    • Display the voucher on your mobile phone with a valid photo ID at the meeting point.

    • Please arrive at the meeting point 15 minutes before the scheduled time of your tour to avoid any delays.
