Why Watch The Night of the Iguana

Written by one of the foremost playwrights in history, Tennessee Williams, The Night of the Iguana is a story of a group of individuals who are in dire need of metaphoric rescue. Golden Globe Award-winning actor and Hollywood star, Clive Owen, returns to West End after nearly 18 years, joining a star-studded cast at the Noel Coward Theatre. Two time Emmy Award winner Anna Gunn, famous for her portrayal of Skyler White in the TV show Breaking Bad, is also part of the all-star cast. The Night of the Iguana was critically acclaimed when it was released as a 3-part play in 1961 and was nominated for 2 Tony Awards. Lia Williams, a Tony nominee for her role in Skylight also plays a crucial role in this play.

Portraying dark and mysterious characters, the ensemble cast is the perfect choice for the renowned play. You will get a chance to delve into the mind of each of the intriguing characters, and explore the demons that haunt each of them. The Story

A group of travelers led by an ex-minister, a widowed hotelier, a painter, a young girl, an aging poet, and his granddaughter come together at the Costa Verde Hotel. The Rev. T.Lawrence Shannon was recently institutionalized as a result of a nervous breakdown. After his release, he is forced to seek another means of employment and lands a job as a tour guide for a travel agency. He is taking the tour group through Mexico when they realize that they have to stop at a rundown hotel along the coast. A tropical storm is raging outside the hotel, and uncertainty is rife on everyone’s face. Shannon has been accused of statutory rape of the underage teenager, Charlotte Goodall, who is part of the tourist group. Discover the mental strife of each character, as the story delves into their psyche and find out whether they can free themselves from their shackles.
