As you walk through the ceremonial gates and open courtyards, you’ll learn how the empire was governed, how court life functioned, and how power was displayed through architecture, ritual, and access. The Harem & life behind Palace walls
Your ticket includes access to the Harem, one of the most intriguing parts of the palace. Far from being simply a private residence, the Harem functioned as a highly structured living and administrative space where the sultan’s family, concubines, and officials lived under strict rules. With the local guide, you’ll gain insight into daily routines, education, hierarchy, and the political influence that often emerged from within these walls.
Discovering Hagia Irene
After completing your visit to Topkapi Palace, continue on foot to Hagia Irene, one of Istanbul’s oldest surviving churches and a rare example that was never converted into a mosque.
A window into Byzantine Constantinople
As you explore the spacious interior, notice the original Byzantine architectural features, including the basilica-style layout, high vaulted ceilings, and the simple apse marked by a large cross rather than figurative mosaics.
