Getting started

Make your way to Kameido Sumo Stable, where this approximately 2-hour experience takes place. If you are using the included pickup service, transport to the venue is provided. English-Japanese bilingual narration accompanies the experience, helping you follow the demonstrations, instruction, and sumo terminology as you learn directly from a former wrestler.

Former wrestler-led sumo experience

Start by learning about the history, culture, and spirit of sumo from a former professional wrestler. The session combines instruction with a live demonstration, giving you a closer look at the techniques and movements used in sumo.

• Sumo techniques: Learn basic movements including shiko, suri-ashi, pushing, and throwing as part of the hands-on training.

• Live demonstration: Watch a former professional wrestler demonstrate sumo techniques as part of the experience.

• Real dohyo: Take part in training on a real dohyo and put the techniques you have learned into practice.

• Mini bout: Challenge a former wrestler in a mini bout as part of the hands-on experience. Ring participation has limited slots and may be allocated by lottery if there are more applicants than spaces.

• Bilingual narration: Follow the experience with English-Japanese bilingual narration as you learn about sumo's history, culture, and spirit.

• Chanko hot pot: After the sumo experience, enjoy traditional chanko hot pot served buffet-style, with water provided as a welcome drink.

• Photo and souvenir: Take a commemorative photo with a wrestler and receive an original souvenir to take home.
