All Skypark Cairns tickets run from the same base at Smithfield. Harness fitting and safety briefing are included before every jump regardless of ticket type.

Season & conditions at Skypark Cairns

Best time to go:

  • Skypark Cairns operates year-round, with no scheduled closure during Queensland's wet season (November to April). Jumps continue through light to moderate rain; the rainforest setting means some moisture is expected regardless of season.
  • The dry season (May to October) brings clearer skies, lower humidity, and more consistent conditions for photography.
  • Peak visitor periods are June through August, when Cairns sees the highest tourist traffic; booking ahead is recommended during these months.

What to expect from conditions:

  • Temperatures at the jump platform typically sit between 22°C and 32°C year-round, with higher humidity in the wet season.
  • Jumps can be paused or delayed during electrical storms or strong wind events; the operator monitors conditions continuously and will reschedule or refund where safety requires.
  • The platform sits above the rainforest canopy, which means exposure to wind is higher than at ground level; factor this into what you wear.

Safety and responsible practice: A must-do

AJ Hackett Skypark Cairns operates under Australian adventure tourism safety standards and has been running commercial bungy operations since 1990.

  • Certified equipment: All cords, harnesses, and rigging are inspected before every session and replaced on a fixed maintenance schedule.
  • Trained instructors: Every jump is supervised by an AJ Hackett-certified English-speaking instructor with site-specific training.
  • Pre-jump weight and health check: Participants are weighed and assessed on-site before every jump to confirm the correct cord and safe jump configuration.
  • Weather monitoring: A live weather check is conducted before each session; jumps are paused if conditions fall below the operator's safety threshold.

What to expect at Skypark Cairns

Arrival and check-in

Arrive at the Skypark Cairns base in Smithfield, complete your booking check-in, and fill out the standard health and waiver form. Weight is recorded here to configure the right jump cord for you.

Briefing with your instructor

Your AJ Hackett-certified instructor takes you through the jump sequence, body position, and what to expect during freefall and rebound. First-timers get extra time on technique.

Harness fitting

Equipment is fitted and checked by your instructor before you move to the platform. For the Giant Swing, up to 3 riders are harnessed together in the shared rig.

The jump

You step off or run off the platform above 50 metres of open rainforest canopy. Freefall lasts a few seconds, followed by the cord rebound. The Giant Swing traces a wide pendulum arc rather than a vertical drop.

Recovery and photos

After the jump, the staff assists with the return to ground level. If you've booked a photo and video package, your footage is ready to view and download shortly after.

Collect your gear and certificate

Pick up your "Jumpers Only" t-shirt (included with bungy and roof jump tickets), your e-certificate (Giant Swing), and any photo or video purchases before leaving the site.

Highlights to look out for

The rainforest canopy view from the platform

At 50 metres up, the jump platform sits level with the top of the Cairns rainforest canopy. The view across the tree line toward the ranges is the last thing most people notice before they jump.

*Fun fact: The Smithfield site was purpose-built by AJ Hackett to put the bungy platform inside an active rainforest — one of the few in the world where your freefall happens above living jungle rather than a river or gorge.*

The freefall second

The actual free-fall on a standard bungee lasts roughly 3 seconds before the cord engages. Instructors consistently say the jump feels shorter than the time spent at the edge thinking about it.

*Fun fact: AJ Hackett performed the world's first commercial bungy jump off the Eiffel Tower in 1987, the same jump style now available at Skypark Cairns.*

The Giant Swing arc

The swing carries riders out in a wide pendulum arc over the canopy rather than straight down, giving a longer sustained thrill than the bungy rebound.

*Fun fact: At peak arc, riders are momentarily weightless at the top of each swing — the same sensation you get at the crest of a roller coaster.*

The running jump

The running jump off the roof edge adds momentum and an angle element that the standard jump doesn't have. Most riders say it feels more committed than stepping off a static platform.

Available in the Roof Jump Package only.

Plan your visit

  • Operating season: Year-round; no scheduled closures during Queensland wet season.
  • Daily hours: Generally 9am to 5pm; confirm exact session slots at booking, as these can vary seasonally.
  • Activity duration: 30–45 minutes for single jumps, including check-in and briefing; 45–60 minutes for the Roof Jump Package with 2 jumps.
  • Note: Morning slots tend to have calmer winds and softer light; afternoon slots can be windier and hotter in the dry season.

Frequently asked questions about Skypark Cairns tickets

  • No prior experience is needed for any ticket. Your AJ Hackett instructor runs a full briefing before you approach the platform, and first-timers are guided through every step.

  • From check-in to landing, most single jumps take 30–45 minutes, including the health form, briefing, and harness fitting. The Roof Jump Package with 2 jumps runs closer to 45–60 minutes.

  • The Roof Jump Package includes 2 jump styles — a standard bungy and a running jump off the roof — plus a full photo and video package, t-shirt, and a Skypark Global membership. The standalone bungy ticket covers one jump with optional photo and video as an add-on.

  • Yes. Minimum age is typically 10 years. Weight minimums and maximums apply and are enforced on-site. Check the exact limits listed on your chosen product before you book — they differ slightly by jump type.

  • Participants with heart conditions, high blood pressure, epilepsy, recent joint or spinal injuries, or those who are pregnant are not permitted to jump. A health declaration is required at check-in. If in doubt, check with your doctor before booking.

  • Jumps are paused during electrical storms or high wind. If your session is affected, the operator will offer a reschedule or refund. Light rain does not cancel a session.

  • Yes. A ground-level spectator zone is available for friends and family. Access to the jump platform area is restricted to participants and staff.

  • If you want a record of the jump, yes, the on-site camera angle captures the platform moment and the freefall, which a phone on the ground won't. It's included in the Roof Jump Package; available as an add-on on the standalone bungy ticket.

  • Cancellation terms vary by ticket. Most allow free cancellation 24–48 hours before the session. Check the specific policy on your product at checkout before confirming.
