CoupleVerified booking3 weeks ago5/5We were very satisfied. We found the meeting point right away. Our guide Christian was there well ahead of time and gave us a warm welcome. You could really tell that, as a Viennese, he is passionate about his city's history. Even before we looked at the magnificent rooms in the palace, we received interesting and valuable information from him about the history of the palace and the history of the Habsburgs. There was also plenty to see and talk about in both the palace and the gardens. Inside the palace, everyone was given headphones for audio amplification so that we could hear Christian's explanations clearly at all times. The fast-track entry also worked great, bypassing the long queue of other visitors.VVibeke S
SoloVerified booking3 weeks ago5/5Very happy with the guided tour inside the castle and the garden. Our guide Celine was excellent! We were told the stories of the rooms and the people residing in the castle, the women and their stories- -a true insiders view and understanding elevated the walk through the rooms. Celine had good control of the group, even if other people entered the rooms and it became a bit crowded at times. I would absolutely recommend Celine as your guide and the company arranging the tours!SSamuel S
CoupleVerified bookingLast week4/5Very well informed guide. Though Michel would have done this routine thousands of times, his diction, inflexion, story-telling and command of the English language was exemplary. He also had a good sense of humour and kept us gripped with genuine interest.KKatja F

GroupVerified booking3 weeks ago5/5Alex was a really great guide. He had genuine enthusiasm and detailed knowledge of the Hapsburgs, the palace and Vienna. He was a great story teller and moved our group seamlessly into the least crowded spots. He was wonderful at spotting the gap at the next best spot and manoveuring us into it, and then moving us on to enable others to enjoy. He also takes wonderful photos at the end of the tour in the garden. A highlight of our trip. Thanks Alex
Pair the palace and zoo in one seamless itinerary and enjoy two of Vienna’s top attractions without the hassle of separate trips. With both set within the same UNESCO-listed grounds, it’s just a short walk from imperial staterooms to lush animal habitats—saving you travel time, cutting costs, and letting you fully enjoy history and nature in a single, well-paced day.
Walk in the footsteps of royalty
Step straight into the former summer residence of the Habsburgs with priority entry, skipping the long queues outside. Led by your expert English or German-speaking guide, you’ll explore 22 opulent State Rooms where gilded ceilings, intricate chandeliers, and rich wall coverings tell the story of centuries of imperial power and prestige. As you move through these lavish chambers, hear captivating tales of grand banquets, political intrigue, and the personal lives of the monarchy that once called Schönbrunn home.
Baroque beauty beyond the Palace walls
Stroll through the Palace Gardens and Courtyards, framed by sculpted hedges, admire ornate fountains adorned with mythological figures, and pause to take in sweeping views of the palace’s golden façade. Depending on the season, the grounds burst into life with vibrant spring tulips, fragrant summer roses, or fiery autumn foliage, while in winter, a dusting of snow lends a serene, storybook charm. From hidden pathways to grand open lawns, every turn offers a new perspective on this living work of art.
Face-to-face with 700+ species
Just a 10-minute walk from the palace gates lies Schönbrunn Zoo, the oldest in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site in its own right. With priority entry, you’ll head straight in to meet over 700 species from every continent, from playful giant pandas and sleek Siberian tigers to the vibrant residents of the rainforest house. Explore immersive habitats, watch daily feedings, and take in the charm of a zoo where history and conservation go hand in hand.
What to bring
Schönbrunn Palace
-
Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the grounds are extensive and even the State Rooms alone can take several hours to explore.
-
Dress for the season: breathable layers in summer; warm layers, waterproof outerwear, hats, gloves, and scarves in winter.
-
In summer, carry a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect against the strong sun while exploring the gardens.
Schönbrunn Zoo
-
Bring a €1 coin for the free lockers at the Hietzing entrance info centre basement (coin is refunded). Large lockers measure 55×45×34 cm and small ones 44×41×35 cm.
-
Carry a refillable bottle; the zoo offers nine free drinking fountains with Viennese mountain spring water in warmer months, and all toilet washbasins provide drinking water.
-
If visiting with children, you can hire a handcart for €4 plus a €10 refundable deposit. Pick them up beside the beer garden behind the Hippo House (weekends only, November to March, daily otherwise).
-
If driving, arrange a Vienna weekday short-stay parking permit in advance or use a Park & Ride on the U4 line. On-site parking is limited, and most city streets have a two-hour limit.

-
Tours are conducted in one language, chosen at booking.

Schönbrunn Zoo
-
The palace and zoo share the same grounds, with the main zoo entrance about an 8-minute walk via Hietzinger Allee or roughly 10 minutes via Hietzinger Allee and Rustenallee.
-
You’ll want to set aside a full day, spending 3 to 4 hours exploring the palace and gardens and another 2 to 4 hours at the zoo, depending on how much you’d like to see.
-
These combo tickets are flexible and valid until the end of the calendar year, so you can visit both on the same day or return on different days if you prefer.
-
The zoo is open daily from 9am, with seasonal closing between 4:30pm and 6:30pm.
-
Visit the Bird House first, as it closes an hour before the zoo; most animal houses close 30 minutes early except the Aquarium–Terrarium and Tyrolean Farm, which close with the zoo.
-
Mornings are best for fewer crowds, cooler weather, and more active animals.
-
Check the daily feeding schedule on arrival; times may change without notice.
-
Pack or grab a Schönbrunn Zoo map at the entrance so you can plan your route around feeding times—don’t miss the entertaining sea lion feeding show.
-
Ask staff to stamp your ticket before exiting to visit Gasthaus Tirolergarten or Landtmann’s Parkcafé, as they are outside the zoo and unstamped tickets are invalid for re-entry.
