At least 300,000 people visit the San Sebastián Aquarium every year, making it one of San Sebastián's most visited spots. Perched on the harbor right next to Old Town, the aquarium is only minutes from the city center. It occupies an iconic building dating from 1928, with two floors dedicated to the maritime and marine heritage of Gipuzkoa.
A major highlight of the San Sebastián Aquarium the 31 Cantabrian-Atlantic Sea and tropical-themed aquariums. Among these, the Oceanarium is the most famous. It is crossed by a 360º tunnel, with more than 1.5 million liters of water and more than 40 species of fish including Atlantic and Cantabrian species and the two sand tiger sharks. Also interesting is the skeleton of a northern right whale, apart from the many tanks dedicated to the Bay of Biscay, where you can see more than 200 species of marine life.
