Getting started
Arrive at the venue near Rinku Town Station between 5pm and 5:45pm for the 6pm show. The evening begins with the sumo programme, followed by a break and, depending on your ticket, dinner before the samurai performance.
What to expect
-
The first part of the evening introduces you to Japan’s national sport through a lively demonstration by former sumo wrestlers. Learn about sumo’s history, rules, traditions, and training methods as you watch the wrestlers in action.
-
You can also try basic ring drills on the dohyō and may get the opportunity to take part in a one-on-one bout, subject to selection and capacity.
-
If you have selected a meal plan, enjoy a traditional Japanese dinner during the break. Choose Chanko Nabe, the hearty hot pot associated with sumo wrestlers, or Wagyu Sukiyaki. The no-meal option gives you free time during this interval, and you can make your own dining arrangements.
-
The second half features a live performance by a practising Iaido master, showcasing the techniques and discipline of traditional Japanese sword arts.
-
Learn about samurai etiquette and sword handling, then try supervised activities using training swords. You may also have the opportunity to wear traditional Iaido training attire.
-
Round off the evening with commemorative photos alongside the performers and a closer look at sumo equipment and dohyō exhibits.
