I studied Ancient History at school and as a treat my wife booked a trip to Rome and Pompeii. Pompeii is vast and the remains are amazing. The audio tour was excellent and we just rambled around taking in the many homes and civic and religious sites.

Queue to get the audio guides (I phones set up in preparation) was short so waited max of 5 mins. Be prepared to hand over your passport or drivers licence as security. So you must ensure you plan to go back to the same office to return phones later and retrieve your item! We had a disabled person with us so security very kindly showed us a quick route into the museum building. It was busy but easily manageable. The map is clear and nformation useful but you cam still enjoy the walk around without it. You have to hold the phone up to listen, or take your own earphones!. Sometimes hard to navigate the screen to find the correct reference point, due to the bright sun.

I recommend the pompei ticket with audio guide. Very little waiting at the ticket office. The audio system is a mini individual box, you type the number displayed on the panels as you visit and the explanation scrolls. Everything is clear and audible. A few comments: - it was over 30°C, and despite the sea air, it's a real furnace. There are water fountains where you can cool off and refuel free of charge. But we were exhausted all the same. - explain in more detail where the ticket office is located. - give more details on where to park your car.

Everything was ok. Just had to inform the ticket counter of the booking date. Had to check my e-mail briefly, it had already been 2 months. But then I got tickets and an audio guide and was able to enjoy Pompeii

The experience except for the rain was good. Although there was a broken section of the train line, it was solved with very comfortable bus and train transfers. The audio guide was helpful.
