Fall in love with Kyoto’s rich history and culture on this day tour of its most famous spots. After getting picked up from the designated meeting point in Osaka, follow your expert tour guide to the Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto, known for its thousands of vermillion torii gates. With ancient origins dating back to 794 AD, the shrine is one of the most important in all of Kyoto and is dedicated to Inari, the Shinto God of rice. You will see many fox statues here, as they are considered to be Inari’s messengers. Continue onwards to Kiyomizudera, which translates to ‘Pure Water Temple.’ A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this temple is famous for its wooden stage that juts out from its main hall, 13 meters above the hillside below. Enjoy a stunning view of the cherry and maple trees below, as well as of the city of Kyoto sprawled out in the distance.
At Kinkakuji, treat your eyes to the sight of the top two floors completely covered in gold leaf. The temple was once the retirement escape of the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu and later converted into a Zen temple of the Rinzai sect after his death in 1408. Finally, spend some time exploring Arashiyama, Kyoto’s favorite touristy district. Walk the Togetsukyo Bridge, explore the Sagano Bamboo Groves and take pictures against cherry blossoms, before making your way back to the original meeting point!
