why watch the play that goes wrong
The Play That Goes Wrong premiered at West End’s Old Red Lion Theatre in 2012 and has been sending audiences in a fit of laughter ever since. "As it all goes awry it becomes hard not to gas yourself with laughter. At one point I feared I was going to hyperventilate,” commented theatre critic Quentin Letts of the Daily Mail. A hit with audiences of all ages, it has especially appealed to young fans. The dys‘functional’ set design coupled with the superb ‘clumsy’ acting by the cast adds the required charm to good writing. It’s entertainment that will leave your ribs hurting from laughing and mouth stuck in a smile.
The Story
The Play That Goes Wrong follows the antics of the Cornley University Drama Society. The society has the miraculous fortune of staging their production ‘The murder at Haversham Manor’ at a big city theatre. What happens next is one mishap after the other, with the complete mix of misplaced drinks, actors slipping out of ‘character’ and malfunctioning sets. It’s the story of the behind the scenes drama that unfolds in a big theatre production - albeit through a comedic lens!
