Entry to the monastery was hassle-free; you can enter within an hour of your scheduled time. It’s not a skip-the-line ticket, but the wait was minimal—about 15 minutes—despite the large crowds (visit took place in August). Admission to the church is free, but you have to wait in another line once you exit the monastery (this one was quick as well).

A wonderful experience. Even though it was July 25, the times we chose for our visits allowed us to explore at our own pace without having to wait in line. At the Belém Tower, the 10:00 a.m. entry time was perfect, and the light was fabulous for admiring the views from above. The climb up the tower isn’t too strenuous because it’s divided into several sections at each landing. For the Jerónimos Monastery, we had booked a 1:30 p.m. slot, but we managed to get in at 1:00 p.m., so everything went perfectly. The monastery’s architecture is beautiful, and the atmosphere is truly enchanting. Before heading back to Lisbon on the 15E tram (which is very convenient), a stop for some pasteis de nata is a must!

There were two lines at the site—one for the cathedral and one for the monastery—but unfortunately there were no signs. I stood in the wrong line for a long time, but luckily I went to ask for directions, and that’s when I was told I needed to switch to the other line—which meant we ended up waiting a lot longer. That’s the only issue that needs to be fixed. Admission to the cathedral is free, while there’s an admission fee for the monastery, but there were no signs indicating which line was for which.

A beautiful place to explore. To our surprise, there was no line. (We entered at 2:30 p.m.) We had plenty of time to tour the site (the monastery and church) at our own pace.

The monastery is really beautiful! It makes for some great photos! It’s definitely worth the trip! But São Jorge Castle is undoubtedly the highlight! It’s the perfect spot for a panoramic view of the city. Not to mention that you’ll feel like you’ve been transported into those scenes from medieval movies. Good facilities. It’s a very cool and pleasant place, especially considering how hot it was on the day I visited. Be prepared for the hike, since the castle is located on a hill.

It’s a site worth seeing. A beautiful cloister steeped in history, with the columns showcasing natural artistry (the park in front features various plants that adorn them, with signs explaining where to find them). The refectory is wonderful, with tiles depicting scenes from sacred life. A bit pricey for what you get (you can see it all in about half an hour, and admission is €20). It’s best to book at least one day in advance.
