CoupleVerified booking3 weeks ago4/5This is a lovely place. Peaceful and not crowded when we were there. So nice to not have a "timed" ticket. I wish there was more information on the people who lived there through time because it is clearly an important place. What is special about it is that people actually lived there, and it feels that way. There is a lot of restoration happening and when it is finished it will be a really special place.TTheresa M
GroupVerified booking2 weeks ago5/5Awesome to see all the detail work. If taking the bus #1253, please note it does no longer let you off near the palace. The stop directions tell you to take you will have to hike up the mountain for about an hour. Better to take bus into Sintra then take the shuttle loop to palace. But definitely go even under restoration it was cool to see and grounds are beautifulRRomina B
CoupleVerified booking3 days ago5/5This palace, steeped in history and filled with original artifacts, lets you soak up the atmosphere of royal history. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re passing through Sintra.CChristina E
CoupleVerified booking3 weeks ago3/5Getting in was no problem. Unfortunately, one of the palaces was completely covered in scaffolding, so there wasn't much for us to see. We only spent half an hour there instead of an hour, and buying tickets on-site would have been €8 cheaper per person. So, unfortunately, it was a bit of a rip-off.KKathleen L
SoloVerified bookingMay 20265/5Monserrate Palace was a beautiful place to visit and booking through Headout made the experience very convenient. Entry into the palace was smooth and hassle-free. I do wish there had been clearer information beforehand about the ongoing restoration work, since some areas did not look exactly as expected from the photos. That said, I understand this may be more related to the palace's own updates rather than Headput itself. Overall, it was an easy and pleasant experience.
** National Palace of Sintra **
Get ready to explore over 1,000 years of Portuguese history. The palace is immediately discernible by its two conical chimneys - a characteristic trait of Sintra itself. With its richly decorated rooms, galleries and corridors, it was a favorite for a succession of Portuguese royal families and their retinues, right until the end of the monarchy in 1910.
Spend your time marveling at how the natural landscape was used to merge Manueline, Gothic and Mudejar designs. The windows with surmounted arches and walls covered in glazed tiles of geometric patterns are a testament to medieval brushwork and craftsmanship.
** Monserrate Palace & Park **
You don’t need to be a historian or an architectural aficionado to know that Monserrate Palace is a work of art. A summer residence bearing witness to the eclectic tastes of a bygone era with the main halls adorned with alabaster statues and decorative symbols. Ornate details never giving the impression of being over the top, reflecting Indian and Moorish influences, that come together to birth beautiful design. On entry, you’ll receive a map that will allow you to truly get into the skin of the place. The best way to go about your tour would be to start by exploring the garden, through the scenic path. Along this winding path, you will see contrasting sceneries with waterfalls, ruined chapels, age-old araucarias, and palm trees. Home to 3,000 exotic species and separated by geographical areas, the garden offers a lens into the diverse origins of plants in the world.
