Minimalist and very, very friendly design as not many museums can say about themselves. I was guessing that there were Scandinavians who designed it. But no, there were not them. I am quite aware that marble was the maine material in the antique Athens, but an outside marble pavment on a rainy day is quite a challange for one's phisical balance.

The National Archeologial Museum was an unexpected surprise. We had been to the Acropolis Museum and were told going to the NAM would be "redundant". This was quite untrue and when we found we had time to visit we were glad we did. To see the treasures from thr Treasury of Atreus from the Mycenae archeological site which we had visited was breathtaking and helped us understand the wonderful work carried out by Heinrich Schliemann and the magnitude of the discovery. We would say this is a "must do" in Athens. We didn't use the audio guide as everything was well documented.

Fantastic museum, what they have to share is outstanding. You need to pre book your ticket to make sure you get in, but on the day we were there it was relatively easy to get in. Entry way and first exhibit with Agamemnon's Gold mask was busy but the crowds thinned out the further in you went.
