Pro tips to help you make a pick

You can buy individual museum entry tickets or choose the Berlin WelcomeCard Museum Island edition, which grants free entry to all five museums once per day for three consecutive days, plus unlimited public transport access. This is a great option if you plan to explore multiple museums at a relaxed pace.

Each museum houses extensive collections, and trying to see too much in one day can feel overwhelming. It’s best to visit two museums per day to fully appreciate the exhibits. If you have the Berlin WelcomeCard, you can spread your visits over three days for a more enjoyable experience.

Many museums, including Altes Museum and Bode Museum, offer free entry for children under 17 and discounts for students, while others, like the DDR Museum, provide discounted rates.

Most museums on Museum Island are wheelchair accessible, but some areas may have limited access due to historic architecture.

Some temporary exhibitions require separate tickets, even if you have a museum pass. Before booking, check what's included in your ticket to avoid missing special exhibitions or must-see displays.

Did you know?

Museum Island’s five museums were built between 1830 and 1930, reflecting over a century of evolving architectural styles and museum concepts. The vision was to create a unified space for world-class cultural and historical exhibitions.

During World War II, Museum Island suffered significant destruction, with some artifacts lost forever. The Neues Museum, in particular, remained in ruins for decades before its restoration was completed in 2009.

The Bust of Nefertiti, one of the most famous artifacts in Museum Island’s collection, was hidden away during World War II to prevent destruction. It was rediscovered after the war and eventually displayed in the Neues Museum, where it remains today.

A secret underground passageway links some of the museums on Museum Island. Known as the Archaeological Promenade, this corridor is part of a long-term project to enhance connectivity and visitor navigation between exhibitions.

The Pergamon Museum was specifically designed around the Pergamon Altar, one of the largest and most significant ancient Greek structures ever discovered. The museum’s current reconstruction project aims to fully restore this breathtaking masterpiece.

Why visit Museum Island?

Five world-class museums in one place

Museum Island is the only place in the world where five globally renowned museums, each dedicated to different aspects of history and art, coexist on a single island. This makes it a unique cultural hub that draws millions of visitors annually.

Home to iconic artifacts

Ancient civilizations come to life at Museum Island, where you can admire Roman marble busts, Renaissance paintings, intricately decorated pottery and gold jewelry of antiquity, medieval altarpieces, and ancient papyrus scrolls. These artifacts provide a tangible link to the past, showcasing the artistic and intellectual achievements of multiple civilizations.

Stunning architecture and design

Each museum on Museum Island showcases distinct architectural brilliance. The Altes Museum features neoclassical columns and a Pantheon-inspired rotunda, while the Bode Museum boasts a Neo-Baroque design with a striking dome. The Alte Nationalgalerie resembles a Greek temple with its grand staircase and Corinthian columns. Together, these architectural masterpieces create a breathtaking cultural hub.

Central and convenient location

Museum Island sits in the heart of Berlin, making it easily accessible by public transport or foot. You can easily combine your museum tour with stops at Berlin Cathedral, Unter den Linden Boulevard, Hackescher Markt, or Brandenburg Gate, all located within walking distance.

We had a great time in Berlin, and the Welcome Card made everything so much easier. The public transportation network is extensive and easy to use. It made visiting museums much easier, although we were disappointed that the Pergamon Museum was closed. We took advantage of the public transportation to explore the Botanical Garden—it was wonderful.

The best part of this trip was being able to enjoy Berlin at my own pace, without constantly stopping to plan or worry about logistics. The Berlin WelcomeCard played a big role in that. Having unlimited access to public transportation made moving around the city feel effortless, and the museum and attraction discounts were genuinely useful—not just a token perk. It encouraged me to visit places I might’ve skipped otherwise. One clear highlight was spending time around the Brandenburg Gate at different hours of the day. It was lively and busy during the daytime, but later in the evening the atmosphere felt completely different and more calm. Since getting around was so easy, I didn’t feel stuck in crowded areas. When the crowds got heavy, especially around Museum Island, I could simply hop on public transport and explore a quieter neighborhood without hesitation. That flexibility made a big difference. Booking the WelcomeCard through headout.com was also a smooth experience. The website was clean and easy to navigate, and the booking process only took a few minutes. All the details were clearly laid out, so I felt prepared before the trip even started. It’s the kind of convenience you don’t think much about at first, but you really appreciate once you’re traveling. What really made this experience memorable was how naturally everything flowed. Instead of rushing from one attraction to another, I could wander, sit in a quiet café when I felt like it, and then move on again without checking the time or tickets. It felt less like following an itinerary and more like briefly living in the city. If you’re planning a trip to Berlin, I’d definitely recommend getting the WelcomeCard, and booking it through headout.com made the whole process simple and stress-free. Small choices like this ended up shaping the trip in a way that I’ll remember for a long time.
