It was great to walk through the little town on our own and learn all about it along the way. It was our first time doing it this way, and we’re already really excited for our next tour! It’s perfect if you want to experience the tour not with a large group, but just with your family, for example. Unfortunately, the shuttle buses were so crowded on both the way there and back, and the lines at the stops were so long, that we decided to walk both ways—it actually took about the same amount of time, if not less. Mont St. Michel is a real highlight, but it’s also very crowded. It’s best to start as early as possible.

Having our tickets in advance allowed us to skip the line. Once we arrived at Mont Saint-Michel, after admiring its grandeur from the outside and the unique tidal phenomenon that makes it so special, it’s definitely worth visiting the interior of the abbey. We opted for the self-guided tour. From there, you can enjoy views of the sea, and at 1:50 p.m., we were able to witness the tide coming in, even though it was only a moderate high tide. It’s definitely worth it, and as has been the case on other occasions, buying tickets online in advance saves both time and money.

The Abbey in all its glory

What to bring

It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes as there is lots of walking and to carry warm clothing in the winter.

What's not allowed

Keep in mind that pets, carrier bags, knives, and scooters are not allowed on this experience.

The abbey does not offer baggage storage, and access is not allowed for suitcases or large hiking bags. Only small bags (smaller than cabin size) are permitted.

Accessibility

The site is challenging for visitors with reduced mobility, but assistance devices and adapted tour options are available. However, despite these accommodations, some areas may still be difficult to access.
