It is good to have a minimal knowledge of what you are visiting, but I don't think it is well guided. It is very handy to have the tickets beforehand.

Everything was fine, but I did not realize that the audioguide was coming to my device to download and I spent 25 Euros to get one for each of my familiy members, including my twin 7 year old daughters. They do not have a device to download to. It's probablly user error, but I would have appreciated a clearer understanding that I was not receiving an audio tour from the place we visited.

You can do better to tell more about where you can park the car if you drive there by yourself. It's confusing where you should start and how you can go there, its very steep. The palace and the gate it felt confusing and you need to go the gate first but how....if you parked rather long way from it....train bus? Witch bus? Cab? Confusing.... But it was a nice palace....

The place is great. Huge gardens and charming palaces and grottoes. We bought tickets with audio guide and upon arrival we were told that we had to listen to the information on our cell phones, which we were not previously informed about. It was impossible to hear anything because another application was required to access the explanations. We saw other tourists who did have an audio guide attached to their ears. Better to take the ticket without audio guide and look for information on Wikipedia.

The audio guide is a rip off. It doesn't give any info. Half of the time it gives directions to reach a place in the complex and one you reach the place, the guide tells you exactly what you are looking at and not much more. No history, no trivia, nothing

Quinta da Regaleira

Get ready for a Romantic castle, chapel, and opulent park with lakes, grottoes, wells, benches, fountains, and a wide variety of wonderful structures that make up the property. There are five stories in the palace including a ground floor, three upper floors, and a basement. The living room, dining room, billiards room, balcony, a few smaller rooms, and a number of stairs are all connected by a network of halls on the ground level. There are extensive tunnels, a Chapel, Park, Initiation Wells, Lakes, fountains, and the aquarium and whatnot spread over the property.

Monserrate Palace & Park

The Monserrate Palace, or Palácio de Monserrate, is an opulent mansion close to Sintra, the traditional summer retreat of the Portuguese court, in the hills overlooking the Atlantic Ocean north of the country's capital, Lisbon.

Afonso Henriques is said to have constructed a chapel to the Virgin Mary during the reconquest of Sintra (circa 1093). On top of the hill, another church “Our Lady of Monserrate” or “Virgin of Montserrat” was built in 1540 on top of its ruins. The terrace opens up to a spacious park. With a lake, several springs and fountains, grottoes, and an abundance of rare kinds of vegetation, it is built in a romantic manner. Plants from all around the world are arranged in the garden according to region. Araucaria and palm trees, tree ferns from Australia and New Zealand, strawberry and holly bushes, cork oaks, and agave and yucca plants from Mexico are among the local native plants that may be found.
