Moorish Castle was absolutely amazing! I'm always blown away by the way they built complicated buildings without the technology that we have now! Prepare to climb up and down stairs. I believe we ended up with more than 20,000 steps the day we visited Sintra including the Moorish castle, Pena Palace and National Palace of Sintra. Mind blown!! 🤯

Everything was perfect, we received the tickets in our email and on the app moments after purchasing. We arrived at the palace, they scanned the barcode, and that was it. Plus, we got them 3 euros cheaper than at the ticket office.

Really cool views looking down on Sintra and Lisbon along the outer walls. You can even see Pena Palace from a few points along the way. Just keep in mind there are lots of stairs and it's very windy at the top!

The Moorish Castle is a military fortress built by the Moors during their rule of Portugal. Today, it is decorated with all the flags Portugal has ever had, which I thought was a very special touch. It is the northernmost point in the city, and the view from up there is spectacular—there is no better view of Sintra than the one from the castle. However, be prepared to climb a lot of stairs, and wear sneakers and comfortable clothes.

To order tickets for a tour of Pena Palace & Moorish Castle. The gardens walking up to the palace are beautiful! We loved the unique charming & colourful palace. The views from the top of the palace are awesome. We liked the gift store where we bought a souvenir book. Unfortunately we didn't have time to visit the Moorish Castle, but had a gret view of it from the palace.

Stunning views, but be prepared for a leg workout because it's all uphill. It's well worth planning the excursion with plenty of time (and bringing sunscreen if it's very sunny) to enjoy the castle, the views, and the surrounding forest

Moorish Castle

Perched high in the Sintra hills, the Moorish Castle was built as a defensive stronghold and still feels wonderfully dramatic today. This isn't a palace visit where you move room to room. Here, the main event is getting up on the walls and seeing how the fortress unfolds across the mountain ridge.

Monserrate Palace

Bringing your dog to restricted areas: Dogs are welcome in the Park of Monserrate, but they must stay on designated paths and out of areas marked as off-limits. Dogs must not disturb other visitors or animals.

Rules: Only one dog is allowed per visitor and must be kept on a non-extendable leash. Potentially dangerous breeds must be accompanied by someone over 16 and wear a muzzle and a leash no longer than one metre.

Getting around the historic site: The experience is not fully wheelchair accessible due to its uneven terrain and historic structures. However, some areas have been adapted for visitors using wheelchairs.

Accessible areas: Wheelchair-accessible areas include the inner sections of the castle, the Moorish Castle Church, the shop, and the cafeteria.

Monserrate Palace

Guide dogs: Properly identified assistance dogs are allowed on site, and drinking bowls are available for them.
