Visiting the Wieliczka Salt Mine was an unforgettable experience. The guide was great - Alexandra. The size and incredible depth and the history. The miners of old must have beeen awesome. Our driver, Bogden, was incredibly patient given that a couple of the clients didn't show up and kept us waiting for over an hour.

Pick up from hotel was easy. Trip to salt mine was nice. Quick access, and so nice to look at all the displays. So clever how they have carved the figures. Chapel on lower floor is beautiful. Definitely worth a visit, or even a return visit.

Yes it's a bit touristy now but it was the real deal for centuries and that in itself, along with the magnitude of the mine complex, makes for a rewarding experience.

Our tour guide was outstanding. The formations, the information and all were great. It was excellent. The entry and exit were NOT excellent, especially the exit. After walking that much, standing in line for 30 minutes to exit was terrible.

Easy pick up, comfortable vehicle, poorly organised on collection at the end of the tour. We toured the mines on 28 July. The mine tour guide was apparently supposed to take the group back to the starting point at the end of the tour which she did not do. She told us that we should follow the indidivual tourists lines to exit the mines, she did not take us nor inform us how to rejoin the driver. The general exit point was on the other side of the village from where we entered the mines. Naturally that left us bewildered as to where we were or how we were to rejoin the driver at the collection point. When we found the group, the driver, Mr. Mariusz, said the confusion was not his fault and appeared annoyed at being questioned. Perhaps it was not his fault but there was a total disconnect that left us uncertain as to how to handle the problem. A call to the office helped but information should have been provided at the drop off point as to how things worked and where the mine guide should have left us. Not much more work but an essential point, conveying information to paying clients is what makes a packge tour complete and succesful.

El tour está bien y fueron puntuales a excepción de algunos pasajeros que tuvimos que esperar. Deberían cumplir con lo que dicen de tantos minutos y sino se va el trasporte porque los demás pasajeros no tenemos la culpa de la impuntualidad. Las minas de sal son preciosas y vale 100% la pena visitarlas.

What to bring

Bring a light jacket, as the temperature in the mine stays between 14-16°C year-round.

Comfortable shoes are essential, as extensive walking is involved.

What's not allowed

Larger bags are not permitted inside the mine. Only handbags with a maximum size of 35cm x 20cm x 20cm are allowed.

Accessibility

This experience is only partly accessible by wheelchair and pram/strollers.

The tour is not recommended for those with walking disabilities, as you have to go down 800 steps, including 380 at the beginning of the tour.

The tour may not be suitable for individuals with claustrophobia, as parts of it occur in enclosed underground spaces.

Additional information

Pick-up is possible from the hotels located in the center of Krakow. If your hotel location is beyond this area or an area with limited traffic/accessibility, then you will be picked up from the nearest possible pickup spot. The exact location and pickup time will be provided to you by the tour operator at least a day before your scheduled tour.
