There were several aspects of our tour that really enhanced our experience: 1) Group size was small - only 12 people. That made moving around very easy. 2) The "Skip-the-line" feature was well worth the few extra dollars we paid for it. The crowds at the Monastery are huge! 3) Our guide Alex was EXCELLENT! As we toured the Abbey Cloister (the main attraction at the Monastery), Alex clearly had a in-depth understanding of the beautiful architectural features, symbols and carvings. Our tour also took us to the famous pastry shop - Pasteis de Belem. Despite the crowds, Alex quickly secured our delicious custard tarts which we ate in the park. Overall, our experience was excellent with Headout Tours!

Guide Beatriz was excellent, made the group feel comfortable and dealt well with some of the group "running" late to the meeting point. She added a great deal of value to the Tour which more than justified the price of the excursion, lots of interesting facts as we went through the different areas of the monastery. Ability to skip the line was great, it wasn't a big queue when we arrived but it was towards the end of "high" season. Insights continued as we went around the church which unfortunately had sections closed due to restoration work. Overall excellent service

We enjoyed the comments of Luis, a very knowledgeable guide with a good sense of humor. He made sure we did not stay in the hot sun and took good care of everyone in the group. The visit was just perfect, culturaly and a delight for the eyes. He even took us to a pastel de nata factory, after the tour. We all enjoyed the experience. He made an excellent suggestion for a good lunch where we went with our group participants. We strongly recommend this tour!

We were so lucky to have Anna be our guide! She had such wealth of knowledge and was able to share her passion and enthusiasm for the history of the temple, its architecture, the city and what life must have been like in those days. Learning about the little details and understaning the purpose and history of the events that shaped the monastery was such a treat- so worth it! Absolutely recommend it!

This was a great tour of St. Jeronimos Monastery, particularly the Cloisters. I was looking for a skip-the-line and this was perfect. We did the 2-hour option due to our own time restraints so passed on other tours of the area. Luis was an excellent guide. Thank you!!

Fantastyczny czas spędzony z rewelacyjnym przewodnikiem Stefano, który poświęcił nam więcej czasu niż przewidywał opis wycieczki. Stefano bardzo ciekawie i szczegółowo opowiedział nam o historii klasztoru. Mieliśmy odpowiedni czas na zrobienie zdjęć. Po wizycie w tym pięknym klasztorze i kaplicy udaliśmy się do parku, gdzie Stefano poczęstował nam pysznymi pastel de nata ( najlepsze jakie jadłam w Lizbonie) . Następnie udaliśmy się pod pomnik odkrywców, gdzie Stefano opowiedział nam o jego historii i udzielił pomocnych wskazówek jak zwiedzić ten pomnik oraz Torre de Belem. To był fantastyczny czas. Polecam wszystkim taką opcję zwiedzenia klasztoru. Jestem bardzo zadowolona z tego wyboru, gdyż myślę że czekając w tej ogromnej kolejce dla osób zwiedzających indywidualne można się jedynie zniechęcić i zrezygnować, szczególnie w upale. Zamiast tego spędziliśmy fantastyczne 3 h na zwiedzeniu. Polecam!

Accessibility

The lower level is wheelchair accessible, but some areas have cobblestones.

Wheelchairs are available for rent at the entrance.

Additional information

Entry is free for Portuguese residents on Sundays and public holidays, which often leads to larger crowds. If possible, plan your visit on another day.

The Jerónimos Monastery remains closed on Monday, 1st January, Easter Sunday, 1st May, and 25th December.

Due to ongoing renovations, the Belém Tower is closed to visitors until the end of 2026.
