We thoroughly enjoyed the Jerónimos Monastery Skip-the-Line Guided Tour, beautifully delivered in Spanish by our guide, Stefano Cannavacciuolo. He gave us a deeply informative look into the origins of the Jerónimos order and the monastery itself. Stefano was an absolute delight—courteous, funny, and highly engaging. Stefano provided wonderful insight into the history of the site, treated us to an exquisite sampling of Pastéis de Belém, and wrapped up the experience perfectly at the Monument to the Discoveries.

Got the ticket with a guided tour because I wanted to have a deeper understanding of the site and I am so glad that Joao is such a fantastic guide! The meeting location was a vast space but he was able to spot us and approached us if we were looking for the tour. He was able to share interesting stories and details of the monastery's history and anything from the floor, walls, cloister and ceilings. Very knowledgeable and has a very pleasant personality! He also took very good photos for you!

Our guide at Jeronimo's Monastery was amazing! He was absolutely wonderful and really took his time and waited for us when the time in the morning had changed and I didn't see the email (luckily we were in route). I can't remember our guides name (It was maybe four letters but unique an maybe started with a J). I wish I couldn give him a shout out. I do have a photo of him, if the company is curious in reaching out. Eitherway, he was amazing and it made for a great tour.

João was an excellent guide. He was patient with everyone and made a special effort to ensure everyone was looked after. His explanations of the Monastery were precise and his story telling was very professional. I think the whole group liked him! The tasting afterwards was very well organised and a nice touch. After the tour, João sent us a list of recommendations and an interesting reading list. A much appreciated touch. Will definitely recommend this tour.

Skip-the-line ticket was a huge time-saver. Our guide gave excellent insights into the stunning carvings. The monastery itself is absolutely worth seeing. I think visiting without a guide would cause you to miss many important details. The church was also very impressive. It was a great tour where I learned a lot about Portugal, Belém pastry and the Monument to the Discoveries. Thank you!

Joao was an amazing guide, very knowledgeable, personable and helpful. He made sure everyone was able to enjoy the tour at their own pace, but still kept us on schedule for all of the different stops. The history and symbolism in everything was fascinating, and the Pastel de Belem was delicious!

Our guide was the best! Francisco has is an historian and shared with us ALL of the relevant history around the monistary. This tour is a thinking persons tour; 3 hours of learning with a guide that made it super interesting.

The monastery is stunning, but the guide, Renan, was the highlight for me. He was informative, engaging, and answered every question. Well worth the price I would highly recommend this company.

What's not allowed

Strict dress code: Off-shoulder tops, dresses, and knee-high shorts are not recommended.

Visitors are not allowed to photograph some parts of the monastery.

Keep in mind that food, beverages, large bags, or backpacks are not allowed on this experience.

Accessibility

The lower level is wheelchair accessible, but some areas have cobblestones.

Wheelchairs are available for rent at the entrance.

Additional information

Entry is free for Portuguese residents on Sundays and public holidays, which often leads to larger crowds. If possible, plan your visit on another day.

The Jerónimos Monastery remains closed on Monday, 1st January, Easter Sunday, 1st May, and 25th December.

Due to ongoing renovations, the Belém Tower is closed to visitors until the end of 2026.

Children’s tickets are free of charge, but must be booked with adult tickets and cannot be requested separately.

Your booking must state if children are included and the age of each child.
