On Bear Ridge

Duration
A deep dive into the world of memories and their impact on our lives, On Bear Ridge is a fascinating story about clinging on to the past. Enjoy a relaxing evening at the Royal Court Theatre as you watch this spectacular tale brought to life by a talented cast and crew!
Some move on from their formative years and migrate to places far from what they once called home; others do not find it easy to let go. On Bear Ridge is a tale of nostalgia and resoluteness keeping a couple tied to their abandoned village. For this production, award-winning theatre and television writer Ed Thomas of the Hinterland fame has teamed up with renowned artistic director of London’s Royal Court Theatre and founding director of the National Theatre of Scotland, Vicky Featherstone.
Ed Thomas is also famous for his plays such as House of America and Gas Station Angel, which also premiered at the Royal Court. In many ways, this story is semi-autobiographical in nature, somewhat reflective of the director’s own memories. On Bear Ridge is sure to take you on a journey you will be unlikely to forget for months to come!
The Story
Bear Ridge Store stands alone amongst innumerable deserted shops and residences in a forgotten village that has been wiped from the map. There was a time when the little village hummed with activity. Family shops, butchers, grocers, and businesses of all sorts thrived with frequent customer visits. Of course, there were also odd things one ideally shouldn’t be looking for, which were always available if you knew the right people to ask.
Unlike their neighbours, John Daniel and Noni, the owners of the Bear Ridge Store, are not leaving town. They drink their last remaining whiskey and spend time reminiscing about a period when the village was lively and everyone was on the same side. In the distance, out of the darkness, they see a figure approaching their store. Who could it be? What is this person’s purpose in an old desolate village?
